From another forum, I have just heard of a couple of members received emails today from the club asking whether members would agree to go paperless. There is an answer yes button, but no answer no button, or no offer to provide more info button. No suggestion that it's just seeking opinion, and no mention of digital membership fee reduction.

I would guess that pressing the yes button would remove you from the distribution list for directories and membership cards, however the email doesn't actually say that. Any members received it yet?

I tried to access my club card in the new app today, and got the message "You'll be able to find your membership card here when you have an active membership with us" and a banner stating "Renew membership". 😯 In fact our current plastic cards show that our membership runs to the end of December, and it is also on automatic renewal by Direct Debit!!undecided

I was going to attempt to load the card onto my Google Wallet, which our daughter showed us how to open it.

Have other experienced the same thing?

    Nellie

Same happens to me on Android. Although you might appear to be signed in I have discovered you are not, could be a flaw in the system? I have discovered that if you go to the three dots, top right, that will take you to the sign in page. If you sign it it takes you to your profile page where you can see your membership card. It's very strange that you can open the App and it will show you your future bookings but it won't show you membership cards unless you go through a second sign in! Lot more work needed I think?

Spot on David. Went to the 3 spots, which brought up menu table, logged out then signed in again and the card is there! Have now saved it to my G Wallet.😁

    Thanks.

The other club are certainly on the ball. I received next years membership cards today. The old ones don’t run out until the 24th of January.  I don’t usually get our CAMC ones until a day or two before. Which is odd, as I thought they had to tell you about an increase in DD a month before. The C&CC increase is the same as the CAMC ( £3 ).  Which is actually a slightly bigger percentage as we are on the lower priced digital subscription.

The other club still costs less to join and there's no £10 charge for non DD payments.

You don’t get a choice with the digital membership, that’s DD only.

Yes, that's the whole point it costs both clubs less in admin charges.

I think there might be a bit of a reduction for not getting a handbook and magazine  as well.😂

Site Directory and map arrived. No outward change to either but haven't delved into them yet. Did notice High Onn still showing, even though it's been announced that it will not open for '23 season.

I had a quick browse of the Site Direcetory, noting High Onn was still listed but not Marizion. I couldn't find anything about motorhome ownership in the technical section or any other area for that matter. Considering half the membership are motorhome owners, it is still very much the Caravan Club.

Its now consigned to a door pocket in the motorhome and it will be a rare occasion when it is  opened again.

Our handbook came yesterday, and we are glad to have it, after I accidentally disposed of the last one. We like to lay the map out, look at an area and trace a route, then pick our stops. We will supplement with non Club options. I just need to go through it and mark up our favourite CLs, but sadly plenty of time on my hands at the moment, so no chore. I will put in phone numbers of a few ex CLs as well.

I have no use of the map whatsoever, infact when I half unfolded it, I thought how quaint. The Club's POIs are of far more use but they need to be updated more often, every three months would be nice but once a year is not enough with all the CL changes that occur. I now do all my planning on Google Maps and save it to My Maps, transfering routes to Co-Pilot (where I have the POIs loaded) or even Park4Night. From the latter I can quickly see nearby places to stay on route.

Yes I thought I was the only one who likes and uses maps like that. It reminds me of joke I heard sometime when a father asks their son to get the map out of the glove box and the son replies whoa there Indiana Jones, I'll just get it on google maps!

New membership cards arrived yesterday.  On the accompanying letter it reminds me to register or renew with a club centre. It tells me I'm with Shropshire Centre and gives link address to renew which I did . I then thought I'd see what the Shropshire Centre offered (haven't been on a CAMC rally for years , lots of other club rallies but not CAMC) only to find the Shropshire Centre no longer exists.  I used to be registered with North Wales Centre but transferred to Shropshire when NW finished. Why was I asked to renew with a Centre that doesn't exist.?

People used to laugh at me when I said I sometimes read an OS map a bit like reading a book. But I still find it fascinating to imagine what a particular spot looks like based on the contours and notifications on an OS map and then compare it to the real thing when we arrive. These days, although I have a garmin GPS to take on walks I always have a paper map as well - can't be beaten if you ask me! smile

They are all available digitally these days at a fraction of the price of the paper ones. I have road maps and the whole of the UK OS Landranger 1:50K maps and France IGN 1:100K and 1:250K maps on my tablet, with licences for my phone and desktop as well.

When travelling I do carry paper road maps as backup and for a better overview.

The digital versions also have the advantage that they are updated for major revisions fairly quickly. So you don’t find a new Autoroute unexpectedly cutting off your footpath in the middle of a forest walk.😂

When away, I can happily spend all evening poring over an OS map. They are one of this country’s greatest treasures, and have a background story all of their own waiting to be discovered. We will happily spend an afternoon trying to find all sorts of obscure things off the beaten track, either driving, walking or cycling to it, preferably for a picnic.

I am sure being a connoisseur of all things Cornish Moulesy, like us, you know just how valuable it can be to find one of those “beat the holiday traffic” local runs to get anywhere, and all those hidden coves and paths. We can spend a day on a beach in August down there and not see a soul except passing by on a boat. Magic👍

Yes we use the technology, but there’s just something special about a paper map.

Our collection is very much like yours Metheven👍

In another life I was a navigator doing Historic Rallies in a classic Mini. So I have a crate full of maps - mostly with the covers removed (easier to handle in a tiny car) with various annotations on them, including notes and arrows to which map number followed on along the route.

    Sorry - totally off topic!

Mine too, as I find it very difficult to see the Whole Picture on a digital map.

My selection in the van for our present trip.

My collection was recently augmented by a great number of OS maps from my late-in-laws house, some going back over 50 years. I just loved having two fully open at once of the same area and noting the changes. It was fascinating to pinpoint my house from map back then which was just fields. Easily done as we are the highest point in this grid square and by two lanes back then that stills still exist today, although they are busy roads now. One of them is now the footbridge over the A1(M) just north of Washington services.

That’s not off topic, that really interesting about maps👍

We have some quite old maps as well Corners, particularly of Cornwall. It’s a County that has seen huge route changes, lots of changing towns and villages, lots of new buildings. We have a map that doesn’t even bypass Okehampton🤣 It’s got one of our favourite CLs on it though.🤣
