The UK 3G network switch off

I have just read a news item that all but O2 are to switch off their 3G networks starting early in 2023. O2 is the only provider who has not made an announcement that it will do likewise but I suspect they will do so IDC.  The reasons are cost savings and the demand for space to implement 5G. If you have an older mobile phone or a device which is not capable of receiving 4G e.g. a MiFi then you will eventually lose your service. It may also effect some trackers?

    Will they not default back to 2G in the absence of a 4G signal? I've had occasions when I've not been able to get a 4G signal so I can but assume that "dead spots" may become a little wider.

    More info >here< CY and looks like 2G also switching off. Some networks, Three certainly,  never had 2G.

    My 4G phone on a poor signal goes back to 'H' or 'H+', not sure where that lies regarding the switch off. These are the only two for data that has ever shown on my phone.
