Nexe4n Tyres
Has anyone any experience of Nexen tyres? I need a couple of new tyres and had in mind Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons as possibles. However, the tyre dealer that I usually use and also my local main Ford dealer are recommending Nexen. A brand I can't say I have heard of. The tyre recommended is Nexen N'Fera SU1 but reading the specification it appears to be a 'summer' tyre whereas the Goodyear is all seasons, but at about £30.00 more per tyre. Any comments from anyone ?

Nexen have been around for many years, I would check the tyre rating label for B and above for wet grip and fuel etc if you want stick to summer tyres but as you are looking at all season, is that what you have now?
I had a hire car in germany many winters ago that had goodyear 4 season fitted and it convinced me of the benefits vs cost especially if your a winter caravaner.
I replaced the khumo summer tyres on our santa fe at 40k for michelin crossclimate SUV last year, as different as chalk n cheese as they say. Our new to us volvo has the oem Continental summer tyres fitted and whilst OK when these need changing an all season tyre will be fitted.

I just fitted Goodyear Vector 4 Gen3 tyres to one of my cars on an incredibly good offer from ‘tyres on the drive’ (Halfords). Nothing wrong with Nexen but that version is not an all season tyre and a Ford dealer is not a tyre specialist. Shop on the internet for price and availability and get the tyres YOU want! However, do NOT put summer tyres on one axle with winter or all season on the other, dangerous at best, probably MOT fail. If you want all season, winter or summer tyres then it has to be all 4 wheels and ideally all same type. Never mix brands or tyre patterns on the same axle, will give you some interesting handling and grip issues.

Since my original post I have done a bit more digging. It really is a bit of a minefield. The recommended Nexen tyre is a summer tyre which, apparently, will perform better than a four season tyre providing the temperature is above 7ºC. Conversely four season tyres, which are a compromise between summer and winter tyres, don't perform particularly well at temperatures over 7º. I think this is possibly borne out with the Davanti tyres that I currently have on. They have worn quite quickly. The tyre label scores are actually identical between the Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons and the Nexen N'Fera SU1 so that doesn't help much.
Although I obviously use my car during the winter months the mileage during that period is quite limited compared with the warmer spring, summer and autumn months and restricted to mainly short, low speed, 'town' driving. The very much unknown factor is what is this coming winter going to be like? My gut feeling is continuing on a warm cycle with not much in the way of ice or snow - when I would not particularly be wanting to go out anyway. Bearing this in mind I think I will give the Nexen a try and hope I've made the right choice.

Unfortunately you have been misled by the 7C issue. It is true that Winter tyres perform at their best below 7C and summer tyres better above. However Given I live on the Pennines and used to drive 20,000 miles pa I Have used quality winter tyres all year round and all season tyres all year round I defy you to tell the performance difference with either in summer. A winter tyre in summer is far safer than a summer tyre in winter….. however it’s your call.

True, winter tyres will perform equally well in the summer, but their softer compound leads to accelerated wear, so a winter tyre in summer will wear more quickly than a summer tyre. So, from an economical perspective, it's worth having both sets of tyres.

A number of years ago - I needed new tyres on my E Class Mercedes saloon and 4 tyres from Michelin (I think) or was it Dunlop - not sure) were very expensive. My dealer (not a Mercedes agent) suggested Nexen and with a good price we fitted them. The fuel economy dropped a little but otherwise one could not tell the difference. I would have no hesitation in re-shooing with this brand. Hope this helps.

Agree there is probably nothing wrong with Nexen tyres however it is a bit disingenuous of the dealer to offer a summer tyre in response to a request for all season tyres! I suspect wear rate on Nexen isn’t as good as the premium brands.

Had 2 lots of Nexen on 2 Sorentos. First ones perished in the tread before 25k miles. Replaced with Kuhno and car towed better due to stiffer tyre walls. Nexen came as original on new 2018 Sorento. I was disappointed. At 35k fronts were at 3mm and rears at 4 but showing signs of perishing. Son is manager of a national garage chain and has fitted Goodyear SUV all round. He did offer a cheaper brand but recommended the Goodyear. I won't describe his face when I mentioned Nexen. So far found raid noise is reduced but so is fuel consumption. He did warn me that the Goodyear are stickier, rated A in rain.
