EVs only good when being driven? Not good when looking at the production of EVs

But they should have had some sort of tax to help with the cost ofwear and tare of the infrastructure they use

They are saving the planet which is way more important than causing a micron of wear on roads. I support fully the idea of a continuing tax holiday for EV’s👍🏻

If a per mile usage charge is introduced, will it be only for EVs or will it be for all vehicles. If the latter, ICE powered ones will be paying twice. Once for the miles and once for the fuel. That is quite apart from any premium imposed on certain classes of VED. Pehaps we'll have to bring "Wanderer" out of retirement.

Yes for sure👍🏻, I’ve got my eye on the Genesis right now. Here’s the thing-every month another EV hits the stands with an even better range. Batteries are getting better by the month also which has me thinking just how long it’ll take before they hit 600+ mile range🤷🏻‍♂️. It has me twitching but not yet committed🤔

The tax is going up next year for ICE vehicles too, that’ll be to add another sweetener for EV ownership👍🏻
PS-sorry Watto I never saw your mention of the tax increase👍🏻

R2B, dont forget to add motorhomes to your list of  super rate VED vehicles.

I also like the Genesis, but it would have to be the GV80 3ltr Diesel, until they hit the used market i'll hang onto the XC90 and keep removing dead flies and small EV's out of the massive grill..tongue-out

I've read this thread with interest.

The 2022 winner for 1500-1700kg was the Volvo XC40 Recharge pure electric. which would suggest - by winning - that it would be a suitable tow car, but with no mention of the range during towing that they do. A considerable oversite for a tow car award!! surprisedundecided

It's quite simple, to do the awards the drive a circuit to compare performance.  there is nothing wrong with stating during that circuit what range they would get/got.  That way, we have something to compare with, whilst being mindful of personal situations, driving styles and other variables.

New Volvo cars (my current potential for replacement (Xc range) seem to be all electric or hybrid but don't state what their towing range is.  On other forums, hybrid towing seem to be around low to mid 20's mpg.  I have a very old diesel Freelander and i'm getting 28mpg towing a 1600kg 'van.  As i'd only be using the 'hybrid' car for towing, i'd not get much use out of the electric side of things and economy is no better than my Freelander. (note, i go to small, out of the way sites in rural France so would not trust charging provisions)

I'm getting frustrated as i need to replace my car and am in the market for 2023, but the manufacturers seem to be forgetting about the towing customers...? (which i thought Volvo prided it's self by giving great discounts for CAMC members....)

It doesn’t help with monthly shouts from the rooftops that Hydrogen cars are now being praised as better than the EV option. In the UK the infrastructure is badly lacking, I’m reading the natural suppliers(Fossil Fuel companies) are positively Luke warm in their desire to invest in a supply network, it isn’t as if they lack funds££. Add to that we have no leadership from the Govt other than the initial drum banging of-‘we will be World leaders in everything EV’. Sadly not. The enthusiasm & info seems to be going hand in hand-minimal. It’s quite frustrating. It isn’t just TOTY who are obfuscating all the outlets of info are doing the same sadly.
