Membership Cards and Sites Directories
I have heard rumours but seen nothing in writing.
1. If we decide to remain members, will we continue to receive a plastic credit card style membership card, or will we be forced to download use a phone app?
2. Is the Sites Directory being republished as a paper book, or is this another obligatory phone app?

When the card went electronic we were told that a hard copy would be available.
I think they would like us to go entirely digital, but that is pretty much impossible I think.
I believe the same is the case for the sites directory.
There was a question at the AGM about having two levels of membership, much as I believe the CCC does, one with everything digital, and the reply was about already giving members options eg not to receive hard copy mag, and also about the paper and wrapper of the mag. Their sustainability was to be achieved in a different way.
Also there was a question about a 60+ reduced sub to which the response was about all members being equal and all benefits available to all. That would mitigate against going entirely digital. Although of course the offers about reduced entries etc. (cant remember what it is called) is entirely digital.

Thank you both for your replies. I think the answer is that both card and directory are destined for the bin, otherwise it would have been made clear.

My understanding is that members will be able to opt out of receiving the printed site directory so I suppose it depends on how many member do that as that would surely influence the future direction. But whichever way it goes I imagine the cessation of producing a printed version of the Site Directory is some years ahead?
As to membership cards are they really necessary? Given that most will be paying prior to arriving on site and the Club have our vehicle registration number do they really need to be checked? Having said that I prefer the card rather than the on phone version.

It was stated at todays AGM that members can opt out of the sites directory and membership cards in the same way that you can opt out of the magazine, as this will make savings for the club. However, all will still be available for members who want to have them

I would be quite happy with a digital membership as we have with the C&CC. However, I want a discount, otherwise I will continue with the hard copies. I’m sure they would love everyone to voluntarily give them up and continue paying the same.
As to the over 60’s discount, I can understand the argument that a discount should be available to all. Just like the mid week one, which has been discontinued.🤔

I’ve currently opted for that on the bookings I’ve made. However, I will see how it goes. If I still end up sat in a queue behind those who are paying on arrival, I may as well opt for that. There needs to be some sort of fast check in lane, getting you straight onto site, otherwise there is little point.

i echo Steve's view and I was surprised at the Club's response not to pass on the savings to members if they went digital. In my view there needs to be a carrot. I have not used a site directory of either Club for some years now but I do carry the C&MC one in the door side pocket of the motorhome in case it is needed, usually for the last mile directions if I have not already plotted them on the sat nav.
I have the membership card on my Google wallet on my phone where it is much easier to retrieve than from the App. No need to be connected to the internet or logged on. I think the card will go the same place as the directory, in the C&MC binder in the door of the motorhome just in case of need.

How did you get your membership card into your wallet?1 -
When you have you card displayed in the app, underneath it is a black box that says 'save to phone' and just press that.

On my iPhone I loaded my card into the wallet....all fine....I then loaded OH card and it overwrote mine rather than adding it...
I tried the reverse by adding OH first...again all fine...then added mine and it replaced OH's.
OH doesn't have a phone and I managed to load both our Covid passes into the same wallet yet I can't add two membership cards...weird.

Same here YT, I cannot load both passes into my Wallet on iPhone. Not a problem for us, as OH can use his own phone.

What's a Google Wallet?

It's an app for android phones that allows you to put a virtual copy your debit and credit cards on your phone and then allows you to use contactless payments using them. You can also store other cards in the wallet such as club membership cards, nectar card, and in past times the Covid pass. It used to be called google pay.

Not in my experience, always goes through straight away. And I'm not sure what get 'tangled' tbh?

Nellie, Apple Pay is much as Corners describes, only for iPhones. Allows you to put important items such as debit cards, etc… onto your phone, removes the need to use a plastic card all the time. Very easy and secure to use. Linked to a fingerprint in our case. Has to be set up via your bank for bank cards, but easy to do.
JV, never had a problem using ours, and never seen anyone else having issues either. More than likely user error.

It normally is user error school children seem more so as was demonstrated numerous times when I was using the local buses every day for four weeks when OH was in hospital and then one wonders why the buses run late
And in Aldi last Thursday the checkout operator said it is one of the major holdups as our Granddaughter says at Tesco check out and definitely on the self service checkouts

Sometimes it’s the card payment devices.
Our Tesco has just put some new scan as you shop devices in, and they are so slow compared with old ones. Still better than in trolley, out of trolley, back into trolley though😁

Thanks, tda. Must get someone with a bit more nous than I have on these matters to show me how to set it up.

It’s very easy Nellie, and I have to say is much our preferred payment method nowadays. 😁

I have the new club app on my android phone.. I think I've now installed it 3 times. In my opinion it is not fit for purpose.
At first I could see neither my bookings nor my membership card. At the moment I can see my single outstanding booking but not my membership card. It says " once you have an active membership you card will be visible here "
My conclusions are : a) give up, the app is useless b) I'll stick with a plastic card c) don't bother with the app.

I rarely use google wallet, I was rather disappointed with it. I loaded my debit and credit card on it, without problem and used them, but when I tried to load the card I use the most, my barclaycard cashback credit card, the app just wont have it. If you search on the google wallet app for supported card issuers in the uk, Barclays just isn't there...
In the end its just easier to use the actual barclaycard for me, and keep the pay by phone option for occasions when I don't have my actual wallet with me but then can still use a non preferred card via pay by phone.

No, just like your debit card doesn't have to be connected.

I just keep AN Other credit card in my phone case/wallet .... 🙄
Not a good idea as phone generate lots of electronic emissions that can screw up data on cards.
