With the increasing popularity of the excellent What3Words app, what do members think of the idea of using an app code in all references to CLs and Club Sites in the Handbook and Club magazine? For those new to this app, the referenced 3 words are to the Three-metre squares into which all of the Earth has been divided! The app is very user friendly and I would suggest the the referenced square used in Club posts was that of the entrance to the site concerned.

I can see that for Club sites it would be easy enough to put in place but CL's (where perhaps its use in locating would be more useful) it could be more difficult depending who was responsible for setting it up. It would probably be down to the CL owners to provide the information. As is well known some CL owners are very up with technology but many are not so whether you would get a complete set of CL locations is probably doubtful?

Whilst What3Words seems to be the popular application of the moment it is not without its flaws. OK I appreciate that finding a CL is not as crucial as the emergency services trying to find you when you are in trouble but there is the scope for things to go wrong. Interesting video here  Do people no longer use satellite navigation systems where you can download POI's?

As DK suggests, aren't there POIs for most sites? In Europe, Archie’s POIs will take you to just about every site. Not sure if UK CLs are loaded but I’m guessing  they are. That cuts out an extra step surely?

Excellent idea R, any help whatsoever can only be good for both site owner & customer. I use it exclusively due to its ease & accuracy & it’s never let me down. It’s a total godsend is W3W it’s why the World’s blue light services are on board with it👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

On a previous sat nav I have downloaded CL POI's from the Club website. They still seem to be available here

CL Bookings App uses what3words, has right from its inception.

(For those not sure what CL Bookings is, it’s a separate CL search & booking system, devised and run by a group of CL owners. Users still have to be Club Members to use the CLs, but it’s a good resource for those who prefer CLs to Club Sites. The filters are much better than via Club website, and there’s a regular newsletter highlighting different aspects of CL life, both from a user and owner perspective. The App is free to download.)

Excellent suggestion! To me this is a no-brainer.

Alan Rogers online campsite directory for Europe already includes What3Words locations. Having a What3Words locations for the site entrance would have saved a degree of hassle ( and two 3 point turns (towing a 7.5m caravan) a year ago on I'le de Re when trying to find a campsite which had at least two names and unclear access instructions! Latest Land Rover navigation systems can take What3Words so i have a vested interest....

The downside, of course, is that no current standalone SatNav uses W3W, so, if you like a live map in front of you, you are stuffed. If you want precision, zoom in on GoogleEarth, copy the lat/long and use that.

When you use the direction function on W3W's it will send lat/long to your Germin device.

Suggest you download it for free, use it and then give a review.

The blue light services around the world support it, they realise that it’s quick & no map reading is necessary. It saves lives that it is the best option. It’s the future I’ve used it for a couple of years. 9’ square area-what’s not to like👍🏻

Can someone explain why, if I have two mobile phones and an IPad all together on the arm of my chair,  they all give three different sets of three words?

Operator error I reckon J🤷🏻‍♂️. I’ve just used Samsung phone, Chromebook & iPad all the same. I’m thinking it’s only military satellites can ‘see’ indoors. I did mine outside at my front door so more satellites could triangulate more accurately, no chair arm I’m afraid🙁
