EICR

Looking for opinions on the above 'service'....

They are not mandatory but recommended.

My habitation check is booked in for Monday & in the reminder email it was pointed out that this service is recommended by NCC every 3 years & maybe a condition of my insurance company.... (have yet to ask).

However, the costs are more than I would be charged for a house!!!! (Cost for Both circa £500 surprised)

Just how thorough are they?

Highly unlikely that they would remove drawers, pull out ovens & fridges to check the insulation on the wiring that goes to these appliances, but this is what is claimed to be carried out in the attached AWS leaflet....

Feedback please.

Thanks

As per the link - Electrical Installation Condition Reporting.

In my opinion it's another money making scheme thought up by the NCC.

My house is over 40 years old and as an electrical engineer I have often modified the wiring - adding sockets etc. During this time I have never seen any obvious deterioration of cable, connections etc. so I am struggling to see why an electrical inspection of the type described would be necessary unless you had an ancient Motorhome with a suspect electrical installation. Of course, routine electrical testing is important but personally I would not go any further.

    My sentiments entirely TW.

Perhaps advantageous when selling the vehicle but in the interim I'll put the £'s to better use.

    Thanks for input.

HG, considering most connections are tucked away, despite searches saying time taken is up to 4 hours, I do not anticipate my vehicle would be half taken apart to fully get to them!!

Additionally, ALL the connections that I have seen easily are secured with cable ties 'clamping' them together so not much chance of them becoming loose....

My insurers (Comfort with Aviva policy) have said both Habitation & EICR are recommended every 3 years but are not compulsory.

I have only had the habitation checks carried out annually as to not void the 5-year water ingress warranty, otherwise would probably limit to the recommendations above.

    Thanks for your input.

    Hi TA,

I'm based in Bedfordshire, will update my profile.... cool

Interestingly, I had my Hab check yesterday & they found a fault with LCD fridge panel..... it wouldn't change manually, although it did the day before as we were away at the weekend.....

It had a display, would change between Gas/240v/12v automatically but not manually, even to adjust temp.

It was recommended that I needed a new control panel.

Checked my manual, removed & refitted the 3 Amp fuse & is working perfectly fine!!

    More £££'s saved.

    I'll say no more.
