High Onn, is it closing

She could still be on holiday, for all we know, so maybe not her problem at the moment, but there should be someone from HO who could supply a proper updste, surely!

JVB, I do not spend my whole life on this site, so have just this minute noticed Ro's response to the other thread. I was going to edit my post above, to reflect that, and then ask why she has not made any comment about the closure of High Onn.😁

There are lots of other web sites out there, if that's your thing. For me it's my night time enjoyment after 18:30, much funnier than anything on TV these days.😃

Just left High Onn today after what will be our last visit. Very sad really as when we arrived we had no idea it was closing in 10 days.
The site does have run down feel to it now, which is no reflection on the current warden who was parachuted in from Brora. There were only 15 units on site and 3 of those left with us.
As a marginal site financially once it requires work doing on it as it does now it is likely that closure will follow. I don't think we should minimise the difficulties of access, it is tricky and could be really awkward for a caravan if an obstinate driver was encountered. As units get bigger I think it is inevitable that this site will struggle and I don't think this the time for the club to experiment with niche specialised sites.
As many have said before me the clubs silence on the matter is baffling.

I really do think the Club needs a lesson in how to communicate clearly to be honest. Folks are too often left baffled and bemused by some of the unclear ambiguous statements, this being a case in point if PD’s quote is verbatim.

With which parts of "will be closed for the 2023 season" are you struggling with?
The surprise it is just for the season. Attached is a screen shot of the snippet.

I think you need to consider the whole context of the thread perhaps?🙂 I rather got the impression from earlier posts that High Onn was to close full stop, but with the above snippet saying “for the 2023 season” I am not quite sure now🤔
I can understand it closing early this year, given the running costs, but wondering if it will re open. Hope so🤞🙂

That’s good then PD👍 We haven’t got our directory yet. I wonder if it might be staffing as well that’s an issue, along with energy costs. The Club were struggling this time last year for staff.

But that statement could have said either that it was permanently closed, or that it was hoped that it would be able to open the site at a later date. So the comms are as poor as usual from HO.

It does seem odd that they give the impression the whole network would be in peril if they opened High Onn as normal in 2023? The statement only tells us it won't open in 2023 but nothing of the future for the site. If it's left unattended for a year how much is it going to cost to get it back up to standard if it re-opens in 2024? If they are going to maintain the site during 2023 surely it can't be that much more expensive to open it and get some campsite fees? Perhaps they have not decided on the site's future yet, other than not opening it next year?

As the club owns it freehold perhaps they have a potential buyer and are waiting till next year to see if anything comes of the sale. If nothing happens then they will consider if further investment would be financially viable to reopen it in 2024. Just a thought.
