Route suggestions please.
I am travelling from Dumfries to Goathland in a couple of weeks time.Last time I travelled. to that area my Avtex caravan club sat.nav.tried to take me over Sutton Bank (which was closed anyway!) This year both Sutton Bank and the caravan "friendly" route are closed. So I am looking at suggestions please for a simple route.I need to end up on the A169.All suggestions are welcome .(caravan is a single axle, shipping length 24ft.width 7ft 5".)

That's not going to be straightforward. I would take the A66 from Penrith, leaving at Bowes to the A67, Barnard Castle (you can get an eye test there). Stay on A67 through Darlington (youll have to map read this bit) to eventually join A171 towards Whitby. At Ruswarp, take A169 (Pickering) and leave at sign for Goathland.
Good luck!!

ViaMichelin.com gives that as Nutsy says as its best options - but gives alternatives if you prefer.

That is correct and those of us of a certain age are aware and do as we are instructed BUT....The CARAVAN edition of the AVTEX sat.nav....(Garmin)......will still try to send you that way!!!!(To be honest a good outfit these days would not have a problem anyway)

An alternative to this route is turn South at Stokesley onto the B1257 down to Helmsley, then the A170 to Pickering where you pick up the A169 going north. Not sure about the turn to Goathland from that direction, but an "interesting" route.
