Depending on the route taken the journey. seem to be between. 38 mins and about? 50 mins which would be without the usual holdups many would expect on that journey

PS the site map and site info is out of date to confuse.members as it shows an LNA and no info to say No LNA

The two ccc sites we have used do not turn early arrivals away but  do not book them in untill 1300 which they have been doing for several years?

It is not unknown. to start booking LVs in prior to 1300 where we regularly. stay ,it although frowned upon by some posters is called common sense at very busy times

I can imagine the lesson that got learned by that customer...it won't involve visiting CAMC sites again...👎

Not earlier than invited anyway! 😂👍

I sort of find myself wondering what sort of grief he got from OH when they had to find another site at short notice……. 🤔😬 🤭

Looking on the bright side, maybe it was cheaper😁

He can’t it’s a public highway. Nothing to do with the club. Plus you won’t even be causing an obstruction.

I don't think all wardens suddenly decided to implement the turn away just by themselves, after all it never used to happen.

I appear to recall from an earlier thread and post that wardens were told by the club to go with this, so really what would happened if someone refused will also have been considered as well I would have thought. Hence what can they say, they'll support their staff.

Wardens do have the right to ask anyone to leave if site rules are broken at any time and here they clearly were. Everyone agrees to this when booking.

Why not! The club operates  24/7 sites so it's not that unreasonable to expect that the powers that be do the same. Sunday is part of my working week & plenty of others work Sunday too.

We have stayed at Hillhead a couple of times, there is lots of room for waiting units to park safely without disturbing others but the surrounding roads are not good for finding a parking place for a car and caravan or a large motorhome

I think the wardens need to show some compassion and not treat all cases the same

I agree if you turn up over 30 minutes early and it is not safe for you to park up then yes you should be turned away but without knowing the facts we should not judge others

As is often the case with CMC common sense seems a thing of the past

The point is, Dawn, that the club appears to be standardising the rules across the network. If you look back at TDA's post earlier today, she outlines what can happen if varying standards are applied at different sites.

Indeed, we shouldn’t judge others but that rather flies in the face of your suggestions that the wardens didn’t show compassion or use common sense. As you said, we do not know the facts other than a member turned up early.

I don’t have a great deal of sympathy with the person who had their membership suspended. From the post that LLM copied, they were clearly aware of the 1pm Arrival, yet still arrived significantly early. However, I do think the club could have been a lot clearer on the penalty for this. Every communication I have seen from the CAMC, including the ones on the back of the toilet doors contains the word MAY, as in May be requested to leave and return later. Such diplomatic language is only going to be treated one way, a minority will still chance their hand. Why not just put WILL be asked to leave, which shouldn’t leave an element of doubt in anyones mind as to what will happen.

There are often small queues at C&Cc sites but members know the site offices are closed till 1pm and there are notices displayed to that effect. You also know you'll be on the type of pitch you've booked and everything is paid for in advance. It's a policy that they have adhered to for a long time. I'm sure they'd go out and manage potential problems if access is impeded in any way but if not I've never seen anyone turned away  There are always specific traffic management circumstances that can occur on any camp site.

I think somewhere like Hillhead was designed with arrival lanes to improve local access. The alternative is a challenging route down to the Kingswear ferry and steam train station, very steep, with a narrow one way system just before the final ferry approach on a hairpin loop called the Banjo were buses from Torbay pull in to pick up passengers. Think Porlock Hill in a slightly busier area. Of course you could go down to the other ferry and be equally stumped or back into the throngs of Torbay.

By the way I don't think people will get the message by this draconian turning away approach, driving a van into an unknown area for some is not an exact science and can be stressful in the best of circumstances so being able to wait gives some leeway. The club should clearly state it's intentions if this practice is to continue because there's no such thing as the perfectly timed arrival in an area like Torbay and  safe alternatives could be given. Unfortunately rocket science doesn't apply in holiday areas and you're more likely to face delays, getting to a site early is often a surprise, faced with eviction this will now add to the joy of motoring skills but do not go down to the Banjo! smile

It is called common sense which as far as this club is concerned. does not tick the box as per the 1300 arrival times

As you posted no real thought seems to have gone into the situations as your post, the member who arrived at Hillhead (although not sure how accurate his stated arrival time was)

The main problem seems to be those who make the decisions these days according to some staff members is that they do not use LVs so have not any real experience to make such a draconian rule.

Ps the queue I saw  at Sandringham ccc site before 1300  was out on to the estate road even blocking some departures

I'm afraid JVB that I have to disagree with you that common sense should replace club rules. Common sense is sound and practical judgement displayed by the majority of people which means to the two extremes one will include the Tick Box people you regularly mention and at the other end will include the people who will expect tobe admitted to a club site at any time.

Imagine having to write the section of Arrival Times for the website to include common sense.

We are not talking about members as we all know as in all cercumstaces some will try to push bounderies (although all site staff are)but from a dictat that seems has been given to all club run sites that arrivals to be refused. entry to sites before the 1300 earliest arrival time and told to return at 1300 or later

The member as per this thread according to him? arrived at a site 15mins early that has ample space for arrivals after a journey that we have also done on several  occasions and it can be an absolute. nightmare at that time of year especially after Newton Abbot ,even after the relief road was opened

That is where common.sense  by the site staff should have been exercised instead of it not ticking a box so it must not happen

It seems we are not talking very early. and by the time the member had manovered out of the site it would have been not very. short of 1300 and if as expected it would have been after 1300 that he had got back

But was the suspension for arriving early? I would say not. They were asked to leave, not once but twice before the SM said their booking was cancelled and membership suspended.

JVB you seem fixated on this particular journey. We have only heard one side of this story and I for one do not want wardens having to justify themselves on CT. I would question the members motive for 1. Writing the post, were they looking for sympathy and 2. Why not put it on CT  why use a different forum. Also in writing a post like that you will also put forward you story in the best light, what I found significant in the post was that the site manager was mentioned by gender but the two wardens were not, so is it possible the member was rude and disrespectful to a female member of staff and that is why the site manager supported his staff and that was why he was turned away and membership canceled and not just because he turned up early.

But as with most posts on this thread it is pure speculation.

I didn’t word it very well CS, I realise that. My point was really that there would be less chance of folk still arriving early if the club came straight out and said you WILL be asked to leave, rather than the weak MAY that they have employed. That to me implies that a degree of discretion might be forthcoming and encourages a few to take the risk.

As I have also posted not all members are aware of this forum surprised

Every post on this thread is a guestimate as to the real reason?  and that is it seems not going to be updated

I am not fixated as you put  it but just trying to see both sides of what is a worrying approach to what is a very draconian. dictat to site staff without very much thought ,when members arrive at sites,,as very few have not ,a  slightly different time

I am not condoning those who are just trying to push boundaries and I expect site staff have heard just about all excuses for being very early at a siteundecided
