Early arrivals - action at last?

Not quite, JK. The point of my thread was to highlight that serious sanctions are reported to be taken, where appropriate, against early arrivals. Therefore, the case I reported was relevant and not a harsh example at all in view of the fact we are talking here about early arrivals.
I'm pleased to hear that this example is a rarity and that most people are complying. However, if you look at the numerous reviews of all sites, it seems there are many who turn up early and complain about being turned away. I think, in view of this, any of us can be forgiven for thinking the problem is more than minimal. It’s something that is echoed across several forums and, consequently, gives the appearance of being a bigger issue than you suggest.

Go to the Caravantalk website, bring up the forum, scroll down through the headings until you reach Clubs section (quite a way down) and then you need to find the relevant post mentioning Hillhead. I am not linking it, as it invariable leads to arguments as folks start to comment on what folks post on there.

We have to take the poster by face value, and yes I read it on the other forum too.I actually had read it before Tinwheeler opened this thread, and thought at the time it was rather odd.He had no anger in his post, and admitted he was early.
What I do find strange in all of this, why post it on another forum, when he know's this forum is monitored.I just cannot see what he hopes to achieve by this.

+1, he can’t be asking for justice as he broke the rules stated. He was directed to return at the appropriate time(but refused) several times so can’t say he was unaware of the arrival times. He maybe wanted his ego stroking due to his anger. . .Although that wasn’t recognisable. It would be good if the person saw this thread & made his point here🤷🏻♂️. Maybe he believed the other forum would be more amenable post dilemma.

We have noted several very early arrivals being turned away from the site we were on
I think? If they arrive just before 1300 there a member of staff at the first barrier allowing booked arrivals in other wise the lane passing the site becomes instructed but none are booked onto site until 1300 and depending how many there are fast tracked arrival is used
The problem is some do not then return to the office to pay and site staff need to find them later

If that was his intention then it's not worked out too well. One poster there echo's my sentiments exactly about agreeing to a set of rules then deciding they don't suit and doing your own thing. I could have written that post myself (in case anyone is wondering it's not me on there)

There seems to be quite a few members.who are unaware of this forum ,when in conversation with them on sites!?🤔 While on my respite 👌
As an aside we have used Hillhead on several occasions and the approach route can be a nightmare or easy (much better since the new relief road was opened so about an hour from Exeter site is not to be unexpected and if arriving 15mins early could be a good journey it is not as if Hillhead is short of parking unless it has been altered

I did wonder when I saw that post, Corners 😀. Perhaps he copied your words from here as there are several who use both forums as we've seen.
I think the main gripe was not being allowed to wait in the arrivals area but not all sites have that much space so I can understand the club issuing a blanket dictate to turn folk away.

No site is the same for space to wait but it seems the tick box has yet again taken over from common sense
Which in the years of our membership is for a few site staff an excuse to use it as an "I run this site And what I say goes"🤔
I have had a run in recently with a couple of Managers? who can only run a site via tick boxes

Thanks JV🤷🏻♂️🤔

Site managers can only use their discretion to a certain extent and if the club says to turn every early arrival away, then that's what they do.
The problem with a non uniform approach is that if people are given a concession on one site, they then expect the same leeway on every site leading to chaotic situations on some sites.

Geez JV, that is the first time I’ve heard you be negative towards any C&MC employee😱

It would be much better all round if staff could use their initiative and manage each site individually, dependent upon space, time of year, time of day, how busy the site is, approach roads, surrounding area etc……
This is possibly how things have been done for quite a while, but of course has always drawn the attention and scorn of those who like things very black or white. At the end of the day, it’s a problem caused primarily by Members, who either can’t or won’t use their own bit of common sense, and the percentage of folks doing this has now reached levels where action has had to be taken for one reason or another.
The simplistic one rule covering all Sites, fully implemented with no room for independent interpretation will please many, catch out an innocent few, educate the selfish/devious, be hard on front line staff at times. Hopefully, once the message has fully got through, things will calm down. It’s probably only a very tiny minority where things end up in a suspension situation thankfully.

I think TDA has put the reasons for standardisation very well so I'll not repeat them. Her post illustrates the potential pit falls of varying the application of rules.

I paid for a satnav online Argos. I went to pick up the satnav the next day & couldn’t gain access to the store as I was too early, I’m looking for a good solicitor as I’ve just found out ‘Frank down the pub’ reckons I’m good to go! ££££££👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

True, it also proves some posters have no loyalty when there’s nothing in it for them🤷🏻♂️☹️

Getting customer care right is never easy, and particularly hard across multi site businesses with differing constraints. Respect has to come from both staff and customers. It’s very difficult where Service Sites differ hugely in terms of geography, space, etc……
Customers often take the simplistic view that anything bearing the same badge is identical across all sites so get caught out, take umbrage, throw their toys out of the pram if there is the slightest deviation from their expectations. Others love the difference, embrace the quirks and relish how hard the staff work to put their individual take onto things, so long as it’s done with fairness and a smile.
One is harder to manage, but the rewards for most are better. Better for discerning customers, empowering for the (right) staff.

Our cousins from the USA have coined a name for the former folk you mentioned-Karens & Kens. I’ve watched the vids. . .Horrific🤷🏻♂️

Very good post from TDA ,and as said a common across the board approach to arrivals has been in operation for years ,it is just as in any organisation things slip? and the new crackdown is the latest attempt
And it seems there are as has always been those who will just love to. show "I am in charge" but thank goodness there are many more who use common sense in whatever situation arises
An arrival a well before 1300 "trying it on?" is a bit different from as the Hillhead arrival a consequence of circumstances
And by the time that arrival had gone down to Kingswear and back via the one way system and used the return it would have been well past 1300 when Hillhead has two lanes for arrivals was a very good example of "Jobs worth" when common sense was available 👌

- I had just the opposite I paid for a trailer on line from Halfords when I arrived at the store in question to pick it up ,they did not have the model in stock when checking so let me have the higher capacity and size for the same price

Of course-I wouldn’t expect any other JV, did they ask for your autograph too?. You are reminiscent of Ernest Hemingway👍🏻

I can’t agree with you that the person in question here's arrival was "a consequence of circumstances". Or rather, it appears it was but those circumstances seem to be self made. Whether deliberately or unintentionally he seems to have miscalculated his journey time which resulted in early arrival. He also appears to have made no attempt to leave Exeter later which he could have done as there is ample parking outside the site and this compounded the apparent error.
I think the club has probably found it necessary to enforce an across the board ruling due to the increase in LV ownership and, as explained by TDA, there is no longer leeway for wardens to bend the rules. Two lanes for arrivals, maybe, but we've already covered the ground of needing standardisation as sites differ.
Finally, I’m shocked that you of all people should refer to a member of site staff in such derogatory terms. I don’t think any of us can condemn either party in this incident with any certainty as we are reacting to a reported story and we were not party to the event. As I said in my OP, we need to keep open minds as we comment here.
