Commercial vehicle
Being relativity new to Towing a touring caravan is it normal to be challenged when arriving on site in a VW Amorak pick up truck. A £30k vehicle, no sign writing, cleaned and polished and an excellent tow machine for a large twin axle caravan.

They are allowed on club owned/operated sites but you don’t say what sort of site this was. CLs and afilliated sites may will have different rules.

I'd like to know what "challenge" was experienced. Were you asked if your woppa was over 3500Kg gross weight? I am not sure what club site rule about "commercial vehicles" exists, if any. I think a vehicle with a gross weight over 3500Kg would be classed as commercial, but an Amorak isn't is it?

Even if it was a commercial vehicle, it would be allowed on club sites. The only constraint on large vehicles might be restricted space meaning they could be asked to park in the car park. Weight has nothing to do with it as many MHs are over 3500kg and they are based on commercial vehicles, as are most under 3500.

If you booked in advance online you would have had to add your registration number so I can't see any reason to be challenged. Do you have a Continental caravan, if so that might be the reason rather than the car?

OK, so this was not a club owned and operated site. A great site though all the same and advertised on the Club website and book. After further investigation, yes this site does have different rules but no question when asked when booking therefore the conversation could have avoided. Upon arrival on Friday lunchtime waiting in the que to be let through the security barrier for the bank holiday weekend (4 units in front of and 2 behind) we engaged into the conversation “sorry we don’t allow commercial vehicles on site” turned out they do so why ask in the first place. One of the comments made was “well it’s in good nick, and clean not like the issues with have with the travellers located close to the site !

There’s the answer then. It was an AS with its own rules. It always pays to check the rules of an AS when booking one. You need have no such worries when booking a 'proper' club site 👍🏻

I think you’ll find that Ford Transits & other vans are the vehicle of choice more recently re the demographic you alluded to JV.

We tow with a Ford Transit Custom (not sign written) and know we're OK on club sites BUT we always (out of courtesy and peace of mind for us) email or call the site direct to check before booking.
