Awnings

Some pitches may have others fairly close behind🤷🏻♂️. I don’t know, Micky, but you know as well as I that non awning pitches vary tremendously. For instance, Bunree has its own peculiarity of no awnings on the front row due, I believe, to view blocking.
Have you asked the question of the club?

Bunree is an interesting one, no explanation is offered by the club or ever has been. We all just seem to accept this one it seems to be an historic thing, and only rumours exist as to why it came to be so, maybe now is the time to officially clarify the reasoning. Who knows, it may be a local restriction, some explanation may be helpful.
However I too know that both awning and non awning pitches vary widely, no pun intended. But the simplicity of the two peg system would solve that. If you fit within okay, if you spill over then no, it’s not okay, all governed by firebreaks. It’s all this debate about canopies, windbreaks, porch awnings, trailertents, sunshades, toilet tents, scooter/bike garages, cooking tents, whirligigs, pup tents etc. etc.
As for closeness behind, the same applies, if it’s in the designated and defined space that’s fine.
Simplicity would be if it fits in between the pegs then all is fine! That’s all I’m suggesting for clarity and simplicity sake.

I do not agree that we should be charged extra for awnings or dogs. I rent the whole pitch and use no extra facilities because I have an awning and a dog. This is one of the main reasons I use the Club sites as there are no hidden charges.
Last New Year I went to a private site who charged me £5 per night extra for my awning and £4 per night for my dog. Why? I take up no more space except my pitch and the dog is not allowed into the facility block to use a shower or toilet.
I will not go back to this site again unless they withdraw the extra charges.

If the Club instigated a different charging regime between awning and non awning pitches would that be a charge for an awning or a charge for a pitch capable of taking an awning?

You didn’t answer my question about whether you’ve asked the club. You know it’s unlikely any explanation or answer will be forthcoming if you don’t.

Sorry Tinny, I have not asked the ‘club’ but have asked staff over the years when appropriate and required like many have suggest we should. Answers have been vague, inconsistent and occasionally contradictory. Just think that the new systems, booking and two peg pitches that are due to come in may address the issues. I’m sure all the points raised have been considered, we just need to hear the ‘new’ rationale and any additional costs if any.

Strike while the iron is hot, Micky, and see what response you get. 👍🏻

In the only two peg site I've been on there was two hand spans either way from my caravan to the peg line, I have to confess I've just measured that and that's about 8 inches or 21 cm.

I thought that the reason behind Bunree was it didn't spoil the view for those behind? Awnings were/are also banned on the sea side pitches at Garlieston I recall when we were there, and Whitehouse beach but that may have been changed very recently I think?

Pretty sure the answer will be Ask the Wardens as it suggests on the site maps, Tinny but I will try. I’m sure they have very many more and bigger fish to fry right now so won’t hold my breath. Good to discuss these issues with other pitch users mind before that approach is made. Helps put the issues into a wider perspective and can provide a greater understanding of related aspects which may not be immediately apparent to me, or other individuals.

I totally get those instances but they are not for fire break issues, purely consideration and respect for others. This can only apply on sites like those mentioned which have such beautiful vistas. Stayed at Bunree several times and have nothing but admiration for the way this ‘rule’ is appreciated by all. You takes your choice, front row or awning! That’s if you can get booked on in the first place. What about an extra full sea view charge like hotels make. But seriously, we are talking about extra charging for pitches which can accommodate a conventional awning arrangement.

And why do I have to use SI units, is that a new CT rule I do certainly use them when in maths or physics but for everyday day use cm is acceptable?
And for the record (as you started it and now probably wishing you didn't) stricky speaking the are seven base units in SI and is mm isn't one of them.
but cm and mm, Km... are what are called prefixes of SI units.

however MH can/may use a wind out awning on a non awning pitch but may have to be rolled in at night
Surely the same can apply to a caravan too, not just to M/Hs.

You can use what units you like .... I've yet to come across an engineering diagram in cm .... always mm. Drills, taps etc are measured in mm so if I'm forced to use metric, I use mm at all other times ft & inches.
Last year a bloke at worked was ordering a rubber faced belt (think along the lines of a conveyor at the tills in a supermarket) and wanted 500mm wide. He thought he'd ordered 50cm but what actually arrived was a belt 50mm wide ..... not wide enough for a single can, let alone a pack of them.

The slug is my favourite imperial unit (Sorry I'll start on thread on this)

I'm not sure that it can on a non awning pitch as it would breach the 3m rule to the next outfit
5c. To avoid the spread of fire, there must be at least 6 metres spacing between facing walls of adjacent caravans, motorhomes or trailer tents and a minimum clear space of 3 metres between adjoining cars/awnings/tents in any direction
6c. On non-awning pitches, wind out canopies may be used as long as the fire spacing gap is maintained. All canopies must be sufficiently secured or wound back in at night, when off site or as requested by Site Staff. Please also refer to rule 5c
A MH won't have a car so the wind-out awning would go in that place, however for a caravan if the wind out awning is closer than 3m to the next outfit then it reads as a no, it is woolly so as always ask the wardens.

A M/H may well have a small car, and a caravan a small wind out awning, which when erected would still allow the car to be parked in front of it or the caravan. I guess it all depends on the length of the pitch and those of the car and LV.

I think, Nellie, it will all depend on where those two pegs are fixed. If you can fit between then all well and good! A rotary dryer or Sat dish on that grass finger or outside the pegs may need some clarification from the wardens along with that wind out canopy wound out for use only, of course, when in residence. But what about the neighbours, oh, the complications and considerations are endless and simplicity is lost!
As for asking the wardens, Corners, you are assuming are you not that they are all singing from that same hymn sheet as directed from the Club’s own training manual?😳0 -
No I never thought of that but as their word is 'law' regarding what they allow on club sites then that's what people have to follow and then complain afterwards if people think it's not correct?
It would be good to know what this manual actually says otherwise how do we know?

An interesting finding: when using the search facility, whether on the CAMC website or Google, for a particular site, the site comes up with the green banner still saying: All of our UK Club campsite prices include dogs, kids under 5 and awnings. Example HERE
Yet, as we've found, if starting by clicking on UK campsites and then finding a site, the word "awnings" is no longer there. Another example of IT problems, for want of a better word

well I can never do that but good advice
