Fast track arrivals is also in operation at FM at expected busy times It works most of the time but there are times the site staff "need?"to find those who have yet to return to the site office to pay , and then at other times there are those who have paid on arrival then fail to advise the office if their pitch and wonder why the barrier will not open without a pitch numbered card🤔

Ah but……..that is tying up a Member of staff just checking off a list of known arrivals. The ANPR will be programmed to recognise arrivals and lift the barrier automatically. So no Member of staff there.
I would suggest the staff Member was there to prevent a back up of traffic rather than anything else. It certainly is when done like this at Ferry Meadows. After peak arrival time, you yell into an intercom to get barrier raised. Which isn’t that much better, but at least the Member of staff is inside warm and dry🤷♀️ Waiting to let you through the second barrier😉0 -
Yes as I posted that thought has crossed my mind too.

Couldn’t they have done it more simply if that was the case. They are going to contact you for payment in any event, the gate code could have been communicated at that time. It would have relied on folk adhering to what they were told in the phone call and not turning up till 1pm though and also ringing through their pitch number.

Agreed. We rolled up and stared blankly at the barrier. I tried Abracadabra, and Alohomora, but it stayed shut. Then we tried the scene from The Bodyguard where Kevin Costner mumbles something unintelligible into the intercom…….that worked🤣🤣

It was CS that assumed voice activation. I certainly didn't mention it. I just mentioned how straight forward it would be (and is already on many of todays systems) to have a communication with the customer...
"do you have a nectar card?"...."how many bags have you used"...."are you really leaving this campsite?"😉

Ok, I never said you did I was addressing MrC BB sharing my knowledge with him as he does us👍🏻. We all have communication just not via ANPR. I can confirm the bottom 2 lines of your post is correct-that is communication👏🏻👏🏻

Just to be clear I asked you a question BB, I never assumed anything, and yes you did mention it:
.When you wave the card at the post it asks the question, are you (really) leaving?
Actually don't get too upset it reminds me of funny similar mistake I made once.
It was a part of training when you had to fly without using your own instruments in case of damage or something like that. I asked my instructor what's the altimeter saying, to which he replied, can't hear it, so I tried again with what's the altimeter reading, to which he replied Romeo and Juliet.

Put it this way if the utility services were working on this road and taking up the space of just a car one side of the road they would need to have some form of traffic control, straight road or not and yellow lines or not. Reason being to reduce the chance of a vehicle collision.

It will be very interesting to see how this works. My guess is it will be fine for most people most of the time. However it is when it doesn’t work that the issues will begin. I don’t know the site, so only going by the photos. Car and caravan rocks up to the barrier and it doesn’t work. Is it the barrier? Is it member? I gather there is some buzzer to press for help, but not enough space to reverse out of the way, so queue forms. If it is not a buzzer hope they are not relying on member having a mobile that works. Is help going to open the barrier or will someone have to arrive from other site?
OK the technology may be well used elsewhere but as others have said, not without issues.I speak as someone who more often than not is jinked by self service tills, too often something goes wrong. And also someone who couldn’t get the exit barrier on the Canterbury p & r aire to work with our camper van.

That’s what confused me. I thought we were just discussing ANPR, not barrier cards, or any other kind of card.
The card scheme is very good, but outside the realms of the Club at the moment🤣
