Clachan Arrival Trial.

I think they can be programmed to recognise overseas plates. Given how few overseas users we have seen on Club Sites (not CLs, we see lots on these) the problem won’t be a huge one anyway hopefully.🙂

I asked the same question and a definitive answer wasn't arrived at, some web sources from people who makes these things say not always and maybe not even for non standard UK ones but things are improving all the time.

The barrier is there but it's difficult to see in such a small photo. As I understand it the entrance into this site also allows access to some cabin type accommodation (don't know if it's anything to do with the Club?) so the entrance barrier is set well back on the site road as it enters the trees. If you can open the picture in a new tab you might just be able to make it out.

That's not the barrier to the Caravan Club site. It is to the right beside the wooden hut.

TDA, It cant be that difficult.
When you wave the card at the post it asks the question, are you (really) leaving?
if not, it opens the gate to let you out (temporarily) and charges your acct up to that point (to stop you running away) and leaves the pitch booking open with you.
if yes, I'm leaving, it opens the gate and charges your acct up to that point and closes your pitch booking leaving it then available to the next customer.

I assumed that was the way out? Not sure I have been on a Club site where the exit is after the entrance if you see what I mean. I have never been to this site although I have driven past. I will have to bow to your knowledge on that.

it asks the question...
The system is actually voice activated, that is very clever BB?
Yes all very well for that system and those sites abroad but the club already has a system in place for taking the money and it's done before arrival (as really like most large campsites in the UK including your favourite CC ) on the site.
And now with ANPR linked to pre payment I can't see how your system is any better or offers and advantage. You appear to be pushing the other system quite hard for some reason if you're not going to using club sites?
A better idea would to be trial the club's own first before jumping straight to the one you like?

How do you think self service shopping tills work? Or cash dispensers or...
They ask questions, in speech or writing...
im not pushing any system, merely illustrating that ANPR or other recognition system can easily have a simple conversation with a customer and 'could' assist the base APNR towards delivering something closer to the sort of customer experience the club keeps on about.
however, APNR is a start. well done CAMC😁

At last! Praise where it’s due 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻1 -
I've looked on the camping park website and can't see any advantages to what the club does, in fact disadvantages.
For one you have to buy the card before use which the club doesn't, then ensure there are sufficient funds on it by transferring money onto it via the app, or web or phone, before you leave. Again with the club none of that is necessary one can just use a normal bank card in one transaction saving both some time and money, why have two cards for the same process?
In my view it is worse than what the club is offering and in fact looks not as flexible, or the club has more of a modulus of elasticity about it (Hope you saw what I did there)

So the system isn’t fool proof, there’s one way of circumnavigating the system too it seems, wait for someone else to go through. A ploy used in the past by some, undesirables amongst them, including Wherenext in this case it seems😉

Sounds as if the club has it nailed. I look forward to the reviews.😉

I’m not saying this could or should apply to the club. However, the one big advantage of the CCP system is that the clock starts ticking from when you enter, not from 1pm. As to it being another card, I don’t see that as a problem, you simply charge it up for your holiday, takes minutes to do.

You're making it sound as if the club is somehow lagging behind the rest of UK sites, but is this the case? I don't know? Does the CCC have ANPR? How many non club sites of a comparable size have ANPR, does Concierge Camping, your gold standard site, have it.
Perhaps the club is leading more than you think?

But the 1pm arrival is very common place in the UK and that's not going to change anytime soon, and certainly there are not many, if any, club like sites that have all day 24 hour arrivals like CCP so the advantage you talk about just doesn't apply in the UK.
I'm not against other cards, when travelling abroad we'll have a pre loaded card but I don't think that approach is necessary when touring in the UK is it? Which was my point?
I can't think of single advantage or reason over here to use such a card touring over here or the club introducing one and perhaps charging me £5 to have one, and then I have to take the take time to do something, load it before leaving, that I don't have to do. My bank card is already preloaded (and gets preloaded automatically) and ready to go.
Unless one were to pre-load it with a large amount (why again) but then there is lost minimal interest and all you're doing is giving a lot more money to the club or whoever upfront?
(Actually we're looking at pre loaded cards for over there in September but apart from security we'll probably use our current debit and credit cards that have no loading or fees)

Better still, try club sites when they have the new technology and write your own reviews with the aim of making a fair comparison. That would surely be of greater benefit to others than simply telling how it could be done. 👍🏻

That in fact is the exit barrier, DK, the entrance to the site is the red barrier to the right of your photo, and is closer to the road. There are cabins not owned by the club, off to the left which use the same entrance from the road so if a few units are parked waiting to enter they would block the access/egress for them.

It isn’t voice activated MrC-fact🤷🏻♂️

Unfortunately I fear you are correct. It is very unlikely we will ever be able to tour as freely this side of the channel. Doesn’t stop folk discussing the possibilities though. After all this is a forum for anyone who wishes to air their views. As to the card, no need to charge for one, well other than the membership fee,😂 you already have a membership card, all it needs is a bar or QR code, or even better a chip. No money is held on the card, just in your online account which the card references. It might even provide a useful way for members to save for there time away, given that two weeks away can easily exceed £700.

That does explain it better thank you, I now understand that it’s a bit more than just a camera recognising number plates and operating gates accordingly, and how it could link to pitch availability.

We've used the Clachan site, it's fairly local for us.
The approach roads are not great so if you are ahead of time trying to find somewhere to linger awhile will be difficult.
If approaching from the Loch Tay side its just about impossible even for a single small car, let alone a car and caravan outfit or a medium to large MH. If approaching from the opposite direction its still not an easy thing to find a layby.
This is definitely a site that you do not arrive before 1pm.

DT wrote "If you are causing an obstruction on the road then it is a traffic offence. The police can then book you for the offence and you pays your fine. I don’t know if you can get penalty points or not, I dare say some one on here will know

That could be a nice little earner when we get our next petrol station panic.
Are the queues at club sites 'really' that much of an obstruction to the world at large?

Mine was a constructive suggestion in response to your comment about reviews, BB. You don't need to be defensive, or to labour the point, or to attempt to point score.

Thus summer on arrival at the barrier, I was greeted by the warden with a list of bookings for the day. He checked our name and the type of pitch we had booked and let us straight through. I think it was Hillhead? We went back later with a pitch no and paid. Very quick and easy.

Could it really be called a dangerous obstruction? The road is straight, and approaching traffic has gets plenty of warning, dashed line down the middle, therefore other traffic can cross it. No yellow lines or other indications that queuing is not permitted.
