We had requested a certain pitch so we and they knew which pitch we were going on before arrival.

I wonder if the introduction of ANPR and the move to 1.00pm arrivals are connected? Perhaps the harsher dealings with some members arriving early (allegedly) is all a precursor to the introduction of the new system to get people used to the new arrival time? If, as seems possible with the new system there will be minimal interaction with site staff during the arrival period,  if arrivals remained at 12 noon and people arrived early it could lead to chaos with members also trying to leave by their allotted time. So with the new system even if someone arrives 10 minutes early and of course can't get in, they don't interfere with people leaving. It does beg the question on whether there will be any restriction on people, already on site, coming and going around the 1.00pm time?  I assume the system only works on entry rather than also on exit. One commercial site I was on had both in and out which I suspect was to control people leaving by 11.00am on the day of departure.

With the departure time remaining at 1100 the Club will gradually  (very slowly, , slowly) come to see that’s when they can allow the automatic barrier at Clachan to open - no more worries of wardens shift patterns, the working time directive, shortage of staff, no toilets to clean, the staff lunch break, and all the rest.  If pitches are free at 1100 -then they can  re programme the ANPR timings. And gradually (very slowly, slowly) members will come to say Hey, that’s been a good idea .

Is the departure time really remaining at 11 ET? I know you don't use club sites at all so it's possible you don't know?

Saving 5/10mins on arrival and not having to come into contact with with site staff to me sounds quite sad, I will usually spent 3-6hrs travelling so 5/10mins is irrelevant and having the ability to avoid site staff is something I don't understand usually they are very pleasant and helpful people, the disappearance of site shops and no longer being able to get gas or a pint of milk is already here and spreading fast, if this is the future direction of the club then I despair.

I don’t think this is all about us but more about freeing up the staff so they can carry out other duties.

It seems that quite a few site managers have already stopped running their shops

Just been reading the FAQs. Some interesting reading.

Firstly the trail has already started? The date given is 24th August 2022 and there is one review that alludes to it. If it was indeed started on the 24th I would have thought the club would have made a better announcement, first I knew about it was yesterday? Looking forward to seeing more reviews though.

I did post upthread about letting the office know:

How do I tell you what pitch I am on?

Once your registration is acknowledged by the Automated Number Plate Recognition ANPR), and the barrier has opened to let you in, an SMS will be sent to your mobile phone asking you to reply to the message with details of your chosen pitch number.
Once you have found your pitch, please respond to the SMS message with your pitch number and we will complete your check-in. If you do not receive an SMS please either let the staff on-site know or call the Maragowan site with the details

    And if one hasn't booked:

What happens if I arrive without a booking?

We encourage everyone to book in advance, however if you did arrive offroad by 6pm we would ask you to make a booking via the Club website or app and then use the intercom for the site staff to let you on once they have verified your booking

    No.

Will staff no longer have a job?

This is a trial to assess improvements to member experience and will enable our staff to be more available on-site and do other important jobs. This is not about cutting jobs, it's about making better use of staff time

I’m told there is an announcement in the latest edition of the magazine which I assume is September's. I’ve tried to view it online but, shock and horror, there’s a website problem preventing its opening😤.

It all seems a bit last minute to me.

I presume because it's a basic £17 all in site it's also  slightly less complicated payment wise.

I eventually found the announcement in the Sept magazine via the app but it took some searching to get there.

Hmm, it says the trial will be later this year 🤷🏻‍♂️

But this isn't being labelled as a staff reduction realignment programme has it, just the introduction of ANPR. I'm not sure where you got all that from at all?

It's puzzling that in the recent weeks you posted maybe ANPR is the answer and numerous posts before on how the club should get updated with modern technology similar to other non club sites wherever these are, and now the club has you've posted twice with some objections and/or possible problems? Guess the club can't do right whatever they do?

Yes, and the same price all season too. (£18 next year) is it just a one set of warden site?

Non ehu £10  per night so fairly straightforward ( I think after a quick trial booking!?)

It’s only got 42 pitches, one of which is non EHU, same price all year. An utter doddle to cater for price wise, and I can’t see it having anything like the arrivals and departures mayhem some of the larger sites endure.

Perfect place to trial something like ANPR. Drive up, barrier opens, you choose a pitch. Payment taken remotely. Smile at staff as you drive past them doing other tasks. Brilliant👍

Ah firstly it was something made up like staff reduction realignment programme and now reality into reasoning into something that you've often advocated and pushed for, and given your stated previous involvement with such staff reduction realignment programmes you must have known this might have been part of it so why push so hard with your previous posts? Like I said I guess whatever the club does is wrong for some?

Again puzzling that at one point you possibly (alone) point to loss of jobs meaning paying less salaries and now talk about changes have to paid for? I've talked about changes putting up prices not reducing them.

I am at a loss with your staff reduction realignment programme and now reality into reasoning and will leave it there with this line of replies and go back to the OP and welcome the changes that will make life better for those of us that use club sites.

You do have a point but on then other hand less harm will be done if it doesn't work. From small acorns and all that?

    And below it says:

A great value all inclusive fee of £17 in 2022 and £18 in 2023 for a standard pitch, 2 adults and all children

£17 per night all season for up to 2 adults and all children. Extra adults incur a supplement

I am sure it will work for most folks, dare I say like us. Happy to do things online prior to arrival, happy just to drive in and choose a free pitch, get set up, kettle on. It’s just like a big CL, but with fancy gates. Say hello to staff/owner when it’s convenient. It’s our preferred model. 😁

However, judging by all the huffing and puffing that is stated in some CL reviews about “no one there to greet us”, it might not suit all.

If it keeps some of the small basic sites, such as Clachan, Nunnykirk, Bromyard, etc…. viable and on the network, utilising staff hours better, then it’s a very positive leap forwards as far as I am concerned. Far too many of these type of Sites have gone in the recent last few years.

I wonder how it will get around the issue of a toad when it enters/leaves the site bearing its own reg plate instead of the MH's reg? I guess it will mean making a separate record on the ANPR system.

Yes certainly if it keeps smaller sites that are perhaps non viable or run by volunteers (does that still happen?) then another good reason.

Staff reduction and realignment sounds extremely painful if it was me I'd get out quickly before I was reduced and realigned....laughing by the way, if you've been involved in these programmes how are you feeling?!...

TW, I know I'm a little thick (rhetorical) but what is a toad? At first it made me chuckle - the idea of a real toad?
