I’ve recently discovered the books of TM Logan and found the three I’ve read have been gripping to the end. They are all stand alone novels rather than a series.

The Holiday is currently in Prime Reading free to read to Prime subscribers.

For Nellie and other fans of Phil Rickman's "Merrily Watkins" series, the latest edition "Fever of the World" is just out and I managed to get a copy at our local library yesterday.  smile

Edit - TW, we're also fans of TM Logan, his latest is "The Curfew" which is a good read. I've just finished an older one "Trust Me" which I thought just a little far fetched but entertaining anyway.

Another series I like is Tim Weaver's "David Raker" books. He specialises in tracking down missing people and gets himself into some very sticky situations before, obviously, overcoming them. The series needs to be read in sequence really, can't just remember what the first one was called though easily googleable! wink

Thumbs up to Damien Boyd's detective story, As the Crow Flies. I read it with trepidation as it's based on climbing (my son and grandson like climbing so I try not to think about it too much!) Anyway I enjoyed it, starting off in Cheddar Gorge and many places familiar to me in Somerset it was a good read. Ordered two more in the series, new turned out to be cheaper than secondhand this time round. smile

Good. Glad you enjoyed it, Brue. I’ve read them all now except the latest, Carnival Blues. I think we can guess at the setting of that one!

I do my reading on Kindle, WN, and tend to buy books when they’re on offer and save them to either read in order if it matters or for when the fancy takes me.

More or less what I do as well TW except I do make full use of our local library when at home. The ebook library covers Wales and the library can source books from North Wales libraries. They're extremely helpful.

I'll take a few books that have been lingering too long in cupboards for our next trip and read them again and leave them wherever we come across a book share, sometimes found on CLs.

I have the BorrowBox library app but for some reason have never got round to using it. Perhaps I should start🙂.

That's a good way of decluttering the book shelves at home.

What I really need is either a ‘list’ or a much better memory of books that I have read, especially where authors have similar sounding titles to their books. Started reading Sacrilege by S.J. Parris, having read a couple of her books it did cross my mind, ‘have I already read this book’ , page 172 the penny dropped, I had! Must have been some time ago so I will continue reading it, but now I know ‘who done it.’ Looking at books I often can’t decide if I have already read them.

Debsc, I use the Fantastic Fiction website, as recommended by Nellie, to look up series of books. I screenshot the result which I store on my Pad (and Kindle) then use the Pad's mark-up edit facility to tick off the books I’ve got and read. It’s not as complicated as it sounds!

Debs, we just keep a book, with the authors we follow arranged alphabetically and list their books, mark them off when we get them and cross tick them when we read them. But I must admit that TW's method is really the way to go.

Thanks Nellie, I showed OH Tin’s suggestion and he said, well that’s sounds easy enough but being - as my OH calls me, ‘technologically disabled’ then the book method might be the one used. I really like the website, will enable me to have a better and quicker choice of books.

Currently I’m doing a lot of re-reading. I’ve recently re-read all of P D James again (one of my absolute favourite authors - as soon as I read the first paragraph I’m drawn in). It’s like watching a favourite film again (and again!).

Maybe Ruth Randell next - the Wexford ones, I’m not too keen on her Barbara Vane books.

But yesterday a pre-ordered Anthony Horowitz popped into my Kindle. I used to save up new books to take on holidays, but circumstances mean no holidays for a while, so I’ll maybe shut myself in the summerhouse and shut out the world.

I read of others enjoying their kindle and I have one but just not keen on reading from it. I just love a book! The feel of the paper, the turning of the pages. My cousin loads her kindle up before her long holidays in France and she thinks I’m mad sticking to books. I usually buy them from charity shops and then return them to that or another charity shop, just my small way of helping a little. I can see the advantages of the kindle, making the words larger for easy reading, not having books laying around, easy transportation and, best of all, being able to read at night in bed without the light on to disturb other half. But I still prefer a book. Also I don’t like audio books much, I like to see the punctuation in the written word. Is it just me.

I both buy books and Kindle downloads. Some I have in both formats.  I know find the Kindle easier to hold, rather than a hardback book - which is what I buy if buying in book form. My Kindle is ancient - no touch screen or light on the screen. The battery drains a bit faster than it used to, but I don’t want to upgrade it.

And it’s easier to sneak new books into the house if they’re digital. No bulky parcels arriving.

Didn’t understand the ending, but am still feeling shivery after reading it.
Highly recommend reading  Zafóns books when visiting Barcelona. 😱

Unusually I've just abandoned a book, Head in the Sand by Damien Boyd, I was looking forward to this crime series after enjoying the first one but it's just too graphic and gory with more promised! So not for me. Unfortunately I bought two books together so will pass them on. We have cafe locally that raises funds with a good sized secondhand book section.

I've ordered Gloucester Cres (can't remember the exact title) by William Miller which is about growing up amongst all the famous occupants there (including Alan Bennett etc.) I've already read Claire Tomalin's autobiography which ends up there too. My gt grandfather was a corn reaper in nearby Regents Park, how things have changed!!

I have  a Kindle, but much prefer real books although I struggle with small print. I like history books etc and like to see photos and illustrations which my Kindle doesn't present too well.

I've got several books on the go.

Just started reading Stuart MacBride's latest Oldcastle book No Less the Devil. I assume it will be gory but funny. Got it on Borrowbox.

Mrs WN taking a more genteel stroll in the investigative genre by reading Jeeves and the Leap of Faith written by Ben Schott, he of Schotts Almanac, an excellent little book full of fascinating information probably some of which will now be out of date.
