Fuel consumption, whether fossil or electric, once you get to 40 mph is more dependant on wind resistance than weight whether a caravan or moho. All our LV's have the aerodynamic properties of a shed. It also goes up on the square law, so that extra 10mph will cost you in range.

You will love the EV6, had mine for a while now & it's amazing
Unfortunately it's a company car & they won't allow towing although i have no doubt it would make a brilliant tow car, instant grunt, no gears, no engine noise, it's like driving a Magic Carpet!

oh!!!! for a EV6, but at just short of £50k on the road, i was wondering how many years i would need to keep it to get a return on my capital outlay ?
, My 2013 Sorento in for service tomorrow 81k on the clock, depending on the outcome i might be interested 
best tow car i have ever had and still has lots of that magic grunt 
p.s. OH has Kia Carens 2007 with 80k on the clock, ok not the most eco friendly of cars but as it is now doing less than 5k miles per year overall it is probably very eco friendly in comparison to a new 20k miles per annum EV.

All in all a very encouraging thread, as lots of pessimists are predicting the ban on the sale of new ICE vehicles and hybrids will eventually kill off our wonderful leisure pursuit.
It should be borne in mind that we are not the only people who tow things with their cars so when they are catering for other drivers with regard to tow range and infra structure they are catering for us too.
I do predict caravans will be become smaller and lighter though, the likes of the Sprite compact and Eribas will become much more common, along with a resurgence in the market for pop tops and even folders/rigid sided 'trailer tents'.
Given most 'vans have the aerodynamic efficiency of a brick reducing the overall height (and weight) will ultimately improve towing range.
Not forgetting the development of the self propelling (electric) caravan being developed by Dethleffs which has actually reached prototype stage.

Personally I don't think the industry has a lot to fear as long as it and of course us are prepared to adapt.

I also tow with a Sorento which is a fantastic tow car.
As you will have noticed from my comment i am unable to tow with the EV6 as the company do not allow, but if it was allowed to i am convinced it would be more than up to the job. I love the Sorento but given the choice i take the EV6 every time as the driving experience is amazing.

As you say the EV6 is circa £50k but then so is a new Sorento!

Yep and my old girl sailed thru the MOT not even an advisory, and thru the service NFF, so she will stay with us for at least another 12 months, with interest rates rising my £50k will be better of earning money in the bank.
I am in no doubt that EV's are the way forward, but when i go touring I like to relax let the car take the strain and not have to worry about where the next charging station is and if it will be working etc, drive in, fill up, drive out max 10 minutes.
Off to Spain in October, driving down thru France, cant imagine how difficult that journey would be today using an EV, in some areas of Spain it is difficult enough to find a petrol station
i see the charging point the club installed on the New Forest site has been reported as not working and will not be fixed until next year

The county council have been replacing all the lamp posts in our road and when asked why they were not fitted with EV charging points ,the answer was the old cables supplying them would not be capable of the extra power to if they were so fitted 🤔

And you've told us that numerous times, JV.
More manufacturers are decreasing their output of conventional cars, Brue, and switching to the various forms of EV. Along with that goes development and the provision of charging points. It's the future for sure.

As for negatives. You seem to be misreading posts and EV users who post on here certainly do not make up "most" of the ownership in general.

I think you are on a sticky wicket really you're on a thread which let's us all know what it's like towing with an EV and now it's shown to be reasonably OK the clocks can't be turned back. Farewell to broken clutches and all that and hello to a cleaner atmosphere.

Funny really, I think it’s one of those things that non-EV owners think concerns EV owners, but my limited experience suggests otherwise. All the EV owners i’ve spoken to are very happy with the charging situation. It certainly didn’t concern me when I ordered the car, and I did plenty of research beforehand.
I suspect the cost of leccy is more likely to be the biggest concern, especially for those who use public rapid chargers a lot.

Haha, I’d love one! I have a petrol brushcutter that I use to battle the woodland at the bottom of the rear garden. Once the new car arrives, I’m expecting to be the target of various comments from other drivers when I pull up next to a petrol pump (to fill my jerry cans!)
