Hi

Having had a situation today on a club site where a caravan pitched next door,  tow bar in put up an awning then sat outside of it within 3 m of my door I felt my space was invaded and felt quite exposed/overlooked.

I stayed on a private site in Kent a while ago and they made every van eu or gb face the direction that their hab door only opened away from neighbouring unit.

Would  the caravan club consider this as a direction going forwards  as it gave so much more privacy at no cost yo anyone.

    You need to ask the club, eclipse. There was another thread on this topic recently and the general consensus was that people are happy with the current arrangements. 

    I have had UK vans with a rear lounge so have pitched nose in and your plan would mean I could be pitching with my lounge area in against a dark hedge. No, leave things as they are.

    In case there’s any doubt, these are the current pitching rules. The text tells all.

    Hadn’t thought of that!! Perhaps common sense amd not privacy invasion should continue!!!

    I'm afraid I see the suggestion as going back in time.  I like to choose which way I pitch bearing in mind what my view might be or where the sun will rise or set and the club is happy to let me do that.  

    What are we supposed to do it we're pitched 'correctly' i.e. reversed onto the pitch and a continental van also pitches 'correctly' i.e. reverses in.

    If you can't stand somebody sitting enjoying the ambience 3 metres away from you, could you maybe sit the other side of your van but privacy isn't generally something you'll get on a camp site.

    If you haven't put up and awning or anything like that is it possible to move to a different pitch. I appreciate you could say to me why me but as its troubling you it is one possible solution? I tend to agree I prefer not being door to door with other units but it seems to be allowed on Club sites.

    To me, vanning is all about the great outdoors, meeting people on site with the same interests. The club spacing rules dictate where the general sleeping accommodation sits ie your van. What goes either side doesn't matter as long as the required fire seperation is adhered to and gives people a bit of freedom how to pitch, maybe for a view or whatever. So, if you end up awning to awning, why not strike up a conversation, cup of tea, glass of something? Or just draw your curtains and ignore them? Really if you want privacy a busy campsite is probably not the ideal placeyell

    Not so easy with a caravan if you don’t have a power mover, or it’s faulty. I wouldn’t have wanted to try manhandling our 7.3 m caravan when we had one,

    Now with a MH of continental design, we tend to go nose in, as that levels the van best  if the pitch slopes slightly towards the road, as most seem to do. For the few pitches that slope the other way we reverse in.

    Personally if the directional info you mentioned was detailed on their website we would have avoided booking it, unless it was the only site in an area we wanted to visit.

    I perfectly understand where the OP is coming from and it's an ongoing issue for some people. We are pretty sociable folk but prefer not to be pitched looking directly at our immediate neighbours, however charming they might be.

    Its often the case that, as we travel with virtually no 'outdoor stuff' other than a pair of chairs, we would find the neighbouring pitch being completely covered in a huge awning, looming at you. Perhaps if we were facing another van with as little 'kit' as us we might not feel so 'overlooked'....but that seems unlikely on Club Sites...more kit, more gizmos (plus the real likelihood of 'extra (four legged) occupants') seems to be the order of the day...so, we'd rather not..

    we have a EU van and, while being mindful of ease of levelling as Steve describes above, we also prefer the 'sunny side', like Jill. However, if the site is very busy, it's not always easy to fulfil all those 'requirements. If so, the overriding one will be that we pitch so as not to be facing our neighbours directly. This can be annoying as, sometimes there isn't the same space on either side of the van. We might even move if that were the case.

    We are far to busy doing interesting things on holiday to spend time fixated with our neighbours. I can highly recommend it for a really good, low stress option……..😄

    The OP is in a MH. If the stress and angst gets too much, they could have a day off and turn it around, psych out the other neighbours for a change🤔 An end of row pitch would be perfect of course……🤩

    Was this your first visit to a club site? Otherwise I assumed you would have known about the club's pitching procedure?

    I not sure I understand the privacy on a campsite view? What about people passing in front of you?

    In any event now you do know about club sites and that this can happen, and probably will, in the future and I can't see the club changing anything are you still going to use club sites?
