Newcastle upon Tyne to Henley on Thames
Hi we are travelling from Newcastle Upon Tyne to Henley on Thames with our Bailey unit .
As this will be our longest journey to date ( newbie caravanners Oct 2021 ) we are looking to stop off mid way perhaps for an overnight stop
From viewing the route , mid way is around Derbyshire . Can anyone recommend an overnight stay location for a mid 50s couple with no children or dogs

There are lots of sites in Derbyshire - club sites, CLs and commercial sites. Why not work out your route and see what sites lie close to the roads you plan to use?
My theory has always been that for a single night stopover location is the most important factor rather than facilities or appearance.
PS - you can choose your own username in MyProfile at the head of the page👍🏻

Either Poolsbrook club site just off the M1 or Clumber club site just off the A1 are close to the half way point. Clumber is opening earlier than planned from a refurbishment, on the 9th August. Therefore might be easier to book if you want a weekend day.

Poolsbrook in many ways is an ideal stopover given the easy access on and off the M1. Having said that it will leave you with a slightly longer journey the next day to Henley but that shouldn't really be a problem as the earliest arrive is 1.00pm so leaves you plenty of time.

We've used Poolsbrook and Clumber coming up from Somerset, a similar distance. Unless the communications are improved at Clumber in the upgrade Poolsbrook is much better if you need to use a phone etc. Both sites are pleasant and quiet.

Someone told me of a small site called Daphnes Orchard -just off junction 24 of the M1. Is that the route you are taking? The website photos look lovely and the reviews are good too.

Polesbrook is halfway if you are using the M1 to Jct 15A then the A43 to the M40 but in my eyes it would be expensive for a night stop. The nearest CL to the M1 in that area is >The Orchard<

Two nights minimum? Yes, well, maybe!
It’s the sort of site I would phone on the previous evening and say “I shall be passing tomorrow and would like a pitch for one night please”. If they say they are full, or if say they wish to turn away £26 for a single night I shall be surprised.
PS Metered electricity extra I see, although others on here say it’s FAR too expensive to instal. The future is here already.!

WTG, we often use “2 night minimum” CLs for just one night. They often get a one night gap, so happy to fill that for them. Out of season, many are just happy to get what they can, so I would always ask😁
