Pre-arrival texts

The most astonishing thing for me around all this is that the Club are actually actively policing a policy they have put into place. They usually pussy foot around most things, which again draws the ire of those who like things very black and white.
Not easy for the staff though, but maybe after three months or so of sticking to their guns, the message will reach even the most remote of individuals. As someone said earlier, the Club don’t do information communication very well.
A simple message tick box on the booking page, which won’t allow you to confirm your booking until it’s ticked would catch the attention of most folks.

We don't all have the magazine so it wouldn't be all encompassing. A way of reaching every member needs to be used.

That’s possibly because they aren’t actively enforcing 1pm, whereas the Club now are.
Some folks will still push whatever boundaries are in place, regardless of all efforts to educate. This isn’t solely about the Membership either, it involves local communities who might be affected by having a Club Site nearby.

That it seems is beyond what this club was prepared to do with the reply I got although the texting is a step forward?
If they have the correct Tel number ?I have just checked my preference Tel number and it is still one from last year although I have repeatedly put the new number in as an edit and is saying accepted

While there are as I understand it good reasons for the 1300 rule as was for the previous 1200 timing I do think that wardens should exercise a degree of flexibility. I suspect like most I try and judge my arrival for 1300 unless we’re travelling a significant distance . This has on occasions resulted in my arrival being perhaps 5 -10 minutes early . Having watched the warden at Bunree stalking round the arrival area at 1255 when the entire arrival area was full to the degree on could not have driven out ( we were walking) looking at his watch I despaired at the lack of common sense and bad feeling he was stoking up. I have no time for those who turn up 30 minutes and more but a few minutes? It is attributed to Nelson , that “ rules are for the guidance of wise men or the blind obedience of fools” He did and still does have a point

But Frabro where do you draw the line? "Give an inch and a yard will be taken" No, stick with a fixed time and enforce it. If there were penalties for turning up early, then perhaps there could be leeway of a few minutes to join a queue if it was not causing an obstruction.

The C&CC did have financial penalties when they first introduced the 1pm arrival times but I think it caused too much agro. That does not mean other methods cannot be tried.

I think, PD, you’re referring to C&CC's exercise of 15-20 years ago when they tried charging £5 for arriving before 1200. They dropped it after a fairly short trial. It was unenforceable as well as causing aggro.

As I've posted before, once there is a degree of flexibility or 5 to 10 minutes leeway, then what is to stop people taking advantage and then pushing that to 11 minutes then 12, then...
To me there is no difference between 30 minutes and a few, it is simply early and something that people have voluntarily agreed to not do?
If one is going to arrive 10 minutes early and it's pretty obvious when you're going to do that either by sat nav or simple maths (take an rough idea that you're travelling a mile a minute on a good fast road) then slow down or pull over somewhere.
You talk about bad feeling but they arrive early and break the rules and then get upset about the wardens enforcing the rules? So if there is any bad feelings then it it's their fault completely.
The quote about guidance doesn't hold true and didn't even then, the problem is no one is really wise enough to know if they are a fool or wise. One of the most famous chaps who said it met with a nasty accident and it was used a lot in training as an example as to always follow the rules.

I have never understood why the earliest arrival time on any site club or commercial is it seems the "target?" for some when a a few minutes later or more would not have the stress that it seems to entail for both the arrival and the site staff?

I do honestly think Micky that you've hit the nail on the head there.

Mmmm, everytime I stick to 60mph on Country roads that have a 60mph limit I’m a fool-BTW I’m very wise indeed so that saying is dumb🤫😗😗

Can anyone please enlighten me why there is such desperation to be at a Site bang on arrival time? I remain totally baffled by this🤷♀️

For many reasons. Some who only have a weekend or a couple of days to maximise their time. Some to get the perceived best pitch. For us on certain sites to secure a HS, if we haven’t booked, or there aren’t service pitches. This one will at least hopefully be done away with shortly.

For caravans maybe? Motor caravan owners are it seems always saying we like to visit places on the way to sites and rock up later
The last thing I want is to dash about to get set up and then do other things I just relax after a journey on the first day👍

We don’t waste a moment when out and about in our MH. We usually plan a lunch stop somewhere interesting, and chill out there, rolling into site/CL teatime. We like to maximise our time away from day one, right through to the last day. Queuing anywhere isn’t on our agenda.

I know I have posted these before and the time stamp is 12:53/54, all within the proposed leeway or degree of flexibility, but it shows what can happen. Melrose is a single set of warden site and they finish cleaning at about 12. They were in their caravan having I assume their break/lunch and were walking back to the office when they noticed the queue and literally ran to get it sorted which they did quickly. It also shows how dangerous and inconvenient arriving early could, and did on this day, cause. The blue motorhome was causing pedestrians and cars to go around it on the bust main through road.

I think it very much depends where you are going. If we travel any distance it's unlikely we would get to a site by 1.00pm, more like 2/3.00pm. But then there are circumstances when 1.00pm is inconvenient. Examples of that is going to a site 50 miles from home which means we have to hang around at home so as not to get to the site too early. Another example is if we are moving sites which are not that far apart. in those circumstances you have to leave by a certain time and not arrive before a certain time. In the motorhome we usually address the second by stopping at a supermarket for shopping and a coffee but that would be less convenient for a car and caravan. Neither are insurmountable, just sometimes inconvenient and often it is the little inconveniences in life that start to make you question whether the hobby is worthwhile, especially as you get older.

I have just read this latest site review and it is definitely not the way to treat one of your customers. However what I am astounded by is the Club's statement and decision to remove the offending review.
We always welcome the opportunity to formally review any disappointing experience and we would ask that members send this in writing to us rather than leave complaints on reviews as the review section is for information about the campsite and it's facilities. As such we will be removing this.
Surely site reviews are only valid if the good and the bad are left visible for prospective visitors to make up their own minds if they wish to visit.
I suggest that members should take any reviews in future with a pinch of salt.

Sorry but I disagree Mikey. I don’t care a jot if someone has caused themselves problems by arriving early, and then decided it’s not their fault. What I want to know about is the location, things to do in area, eateries, shopping opportunities, walks, cycle rides etc…. That’s a review to me. Complaints should be made elsewhere.

I guess "reviews" (loose term) should indeed be regarded with a pinch of salt. A site review is exactly that, not someone who has had communication via a phone call and a sms from the site advising of arrival time but chooses to ignore that advice and turn up early anyway and then complain when asked to adhere to the advice given.
You missed quoting the advice on how to complain in a proper manner Mikey.
