Gloucester Services
Hi.
Has anyone stayed at Gloucester services overnight with a touring caravan. We are going on holiday to Somerset and would like to stop over on a Saturday night, hopefully getting there about 9pm but I am a bit concern about not being able to get a space in case it's full.

You don't say where you're setting off from but I'm guessing that Gloucester Services would be around your half way point.
I would never stay overnight in any motorway services personally. Have a look at your Sites Directory and Handbook and map and find a CL in the vicinity. You'll get a much better night's sleep I'm sure instead of being amongst noisy and sometimes smelly lorries.

One of the best services there is in the UK. They have quite extensive parking for caravan/motorhomes. £23 overnight which includes a £5 voucher see here An alternative might be the CMC Cadeside site at Wellington but you would have to have a chat with the site manager about arriving so late.

The caravan area at Gloucester South is well away from lorries and is large, clean and spacious backing on to a nice green dog walking area. Possibly the only services we'd consider for a stop over. Be aware that they are not like other services, no full 24 hour service or late night burgers. Check out their web site for details and costs.
Gloucester North is much the same although slightly closer to the M5 if noise is a concern.
The farm shop food etc is very good but can be expensive.

Hi Julie, We are all different but, even though it is a superb services, I would not even consider stopping there or at any other services.

Julie, a review of Regency Court caravan site at Cheltenham mentions arriving at 10pm. That might be a nearby alternative to the motorway services but it’s not a site I know.

You could try the overnight parking area at Hollymount CL just outside Ross-on-Wye. The overnight area has EHU and you can use the other site facilities. The area is ok to remain hitched up and there is ample room to spin your unit round. The CL is about 15 miles from Gloucester alongside the A40. The last time we used the facility we didn’t arrive until about 2am. I think the cost was about £10/night

Hi, As the OP has a tourer I made my comments in that regard-different matter in a MH but still wouldn't be what we would plan to do.

I think it would be fine for any type of van especially if it's a late stop over after a long journey. The main worry from the OP was about the parking area being full but hopefully there would be room. It's something some people have to consider and with holiday motorway delays in the southwest it's a useful facility.

Depending where you're coming from Julie you could have a look at this CL, a bit further north from Gloucester, admittedly, easily reached from M5J6, nice quiet site with a family friendly pub/restaurant just a couple of miles up the road.

With Somerset not being any great distance from Gloucestershire/Worcestershire it’ll not take long to travel on the second day and, if a club site is the destination, the arrival time of 1300 will mean there’ll be ample time to complete the journey.
