With shortage of Calorlite bottles and trying to cut down on payload.

can the auto change over be safely used with only one bottle connected?

I thought that DD, but according to a discussion on Caravan Talk - it's not necessary.  After all - what if you've got two Safefills and remove one for filling? It's perfectly safe to operate with the remaining bottle connected without any leaks.  Before I got my second S/F, I operated with just one and left the other pigtail connected.  It went in for service like that and I know everything was pressure tested and there were no comments indicating I was doing anything dangerous.

    From Gaslow website

“The Gaslow Automatic Changeover is designed to be used with a twin cylinder gas system, designed for ease of operation and peace of mind. The automatic changeover fits onto any 30mbar regulator from 2004 with a W20 inlet thread.

The changeover is operated with both gas cylinders turned ON, first drawing gas from the service cylinder with the vanes in the window showing green. When the gas levels run low, the sensing device automatically changes over to the reserve cylinder without interrupting the gas flow and the vanes show red, indicating changeover has taken place.

Once changeover has taken place the internal non-return valve then allows you to disconnect your cylinder without switching off your gas supply“

Although I've got the auto-changeover, I tend not to use it with both bottles open.  That way, I know when one bottle is empty and needs filling.  It only takes a few moments to turn the valve over to the other cylinder. One day, I'll be in trouble - when there's something cooking in the oven and the gas has gone out without us knowingundecided
