Outer Hebrides by caravan
We have been members for over 39 years and have toured Scotland many times but never been to the outer isles. Would love to hear other members’ experience - towing, sites available, ferries, etc.

Might be worth having a look at the Andrew Ditton (sometimes contributes to the Club Magazine) on YouTube. He has an excellent series of videos on all aspects of taking caravans and motorhomes to the Islands. Not sure if he still does but he used to live there so knows the area like the back of his hand.

Check out CalMac for ferries and UK Campsite for sites as well as the Visit Outer Hebrides tourist website. It’s all there for you to choose what suits👍🏻

We toured the Highlands and Outer Hebrides with our caravan in the glorious May & June of 2018. We sailed from Oban to Barra and stayed at Croft No 2 CS (Camping and Caravan Club). We then crossed to South Uist and stayed at Moorcroft Holidays on N Uist. We then crossed to Lewis and stayed at Eilean Fraoich Campsite. CalMac staff on all the ferries were brilliant. Towing is no different than anywhere else. We booked the sites we stayed on rather than risk having to try & wild camp with a caravan. Our only regret is allowing ourselves only two weeks on the islands. Nevertheless, a memorable holiday - go for it, you’ll love it.

Agreed. It's fabulous. We were there much the same time as Vanbirds but did the trip north to south. As we did it with a PVC MH, I hesitate to give advice about towing a caravan but people do and were on most of the sites we used.
