Hi All

Just wanted to share a recent quandary and wondered whether anyone had any ideas.

Staying at Rosedale Abbey site where there is NO mobile signal. Wanted to log on to club WiFi - no problem BUT my years “pass” had expired and because there is no mobile signal here I (and others it would seem) found it impossible to pay for ANY WiFi as due to, I believe, 3D authentication as it’s termed which needed to verify my card payment via, you guessed it, my mobile which has no signal! Tried first direct, hand, Barclays, tsb and nationwide (I know too many accounts) ALL fell foul of the same issue. Walked to a cafe with free WiFi (Graze on the Green - excellent food!) and WiFi called the support number who eventually understood, could see I had tried, can’t take payments but gave 72 hours free of charge - which was good of them but doesn’t solve the issue! Any ideas other than always make sure you have renewed before coming to a site with no mobile coverage (on ANY network!)??!!

I suppose it’s a bi product of trying to make things more secure. I don’t suppose there is anyway round it if there isn’t a phone signal for your bank to send a text with a authentication pin. So far however, it has been higher value on line purchases that have attracted additional authentication for us.

We were one site earlier this year and the problem I had with authentication of my card was that I didn’t get anything from my bank. I’m assuming that no payment was requested because the mobile signal was ok and I tried three different cards.

Last week we were at Lower Wensleydale and in the blurb issued by the site team it said that Wi-Fi was only available outside the office but we were welcome to sit on the bench there to access the Wi-Fi . What was disappointing was that the club were charging the full rate

Could you not use PayPal which I believe is one of the payment options for buying Club WiFi?

Edit - This might be no better suggestion as I have just use Pay Pal to buy something else of similar value and I needed a code!!!

I don’t do PayPal but I could sign up to it I suppose. Since I only need to check emails I used my phone as a hotspot, I rarely use all my data allowance except when my GS decides to connect his piggy back on my phone
