Pitch reserving

That's easy, my pitch wouldn't have trees overhanging it or trees putting me in the shade.
It wouldn't have children or noisy dogs in adjacent pitches.
It wouldn't be next to one of the service areas or too close to the facility block.
Ideally it wouldn't be a short cut to the facility block.
It would have a nice view (if possible)
It would be in a nice quiet corner, not by the entrance or exit or a busy road.
That's why I like to pick my pitch myself and not have one allocated.
I'm fussy I know but they do exist you just have to find them 🤪🤪

Here’s a UK site where you don’t have to race people to bag a pitch.

There's one in Orkney too but neither are club sites, as per the topic here, so not really relevant in my opinion.

A few years ago we were at Hebden Bridge club site and saw a couple wandering round looking at pitches at 10.30 in the morning. They then left a “Motorhome occupying this pitch” sign. They returned a few minutes later with - a caravan an pitched up on adjacent pitch. There friends turned up in a motorhome at 2.30 in the afternoon. Unbelievable.

I am currently at the Battle site East Sussex, on arrival I was given a site plan with all available pitches marked and was told there were also a couple of units also looking so a couple may be already taken, on driving around I had the choice of a great many grass pitches and and a good number of hardstandings I chose a good size hardstanding not to close to neighbours in the sun but a small wood at the rear so shade available I'm sitting writing this while listening to birdsong, I'm very happy with my pitch for the next 10 days, why anyone would want a pitch allocated to them by some jobsworth who because its already allocated and on the board its just not possible to choose your own is beyond me

Who allocates pitches on a board, Arch? That’s a new one to me. The only time I’ve seen similar happen with either club is when a pitch has to be allocated for a specific reason - size of unit, perhaps.
What you have described is the normal CAMC pitch selection process so is quite unremarkable.
"Some jobsworth" is a bit strong, isn’t it?😕

It was a few years ago when CCC site Moreton at the time the wardens had a big wall chart with pitch numbers and names of members allocated (and I mean allocated ) I was not satisfied with the pitch I was given and explained so to the warden who had escorted me to the pitch to ensure I pitched correctly, I then had all excuses why they allocate pitches so that they have control of the site and the site plan by this I presume the master board chart had been filled in, very old fashioned to me, I had a similar experience at the Dulverton site, soon after I joined the CC and what a breath of fresh air that was I mean choosing your own pitch I couldn't believe it, and now we have members wanting to change, unbelievable.

Never, ever come across that with C&CC, Arch. That warden clearly had his reasons.
I don’t think members are asking for pitches to be allocated by staff but are asking to be able to choose a particular pitch at the time of booking.

Arch's post reminded me that many CAMC sites had the large white boards with pitch numbers, the name of who on that pitch and their leaving date. It was quite common and the warn used to put your name on it when you told them which pitch you were on.
I assume that either the board is all now on line and having it now might even break GDPR?

Some people not only wardens in customer facing jobs obviously could do with further customer communication skills, especially when it impacts a persons holiday. I dont agree with the being able to book a specific pitch on initial booking all the plum pitches will soon be booked as it is now we all have the same chance its what's available when you arrive.

The same applies. We would all have the same chance with the difference being that the chance would occur at the time of booking instead of at arrival.
Anyway, I don’t care one way or the other and I’m not arguing a case from either side but merely pointing out what’s been said.
If staff in any business act inappropriately you need to complain to those who can do something about it.

Yes, it was GDPR. I think they initially moved the boards to the back office but probably don't use them at all now as the club's IT systems have moved on in leaps and bounds🤪🤭🤣

Just had a nose around to walk diner off. The site is full and there in fact only 28 pitches for vans and a half dozen tent pitches. There are only nine caravans on site, the remaining19 pitches are mainly occupied by campervans. There are only a three large'ish motorhomes one of them being mine. A sign of a growing trend.

I’ve not been to that site for over 30 years, PD. It’s a nice little town. Enjoy!
