Southport Air show
We made a late booking for a couple of nights at Southport from tomorrow. Watched the local news tonight and the Air Show is in this weekend (Sat/Sun) with some road closures.
As far as I can see there’s no info on the site page so looks like some arriving tomorrow mid afternoon will be caught out. We would normally drive in from Ainsdale but that road is closed from 3:00pm and Marine Parade is closed from 7:00am to 7:00pm.
We should be OK as we can change our route although I expect it will take us longer.
Will be interesting to see what will happen to the usual queues of vans and Motorhomes outside the site because waiting and loading is restricted. 😳😉

Usually, for the weekend of the air show the Southport site is ram jam full and there are restrictions for vehicular access on the Esplanade for which you had to have a 'pass' to enable you to access the club site.
Can't comment on this year as we decided not to go but I'm pretty certain, in the past, we've received full information regarding access and road closures.

I live 4 miles north of Southport and forgot about the airshow so got stuck in traffic as I was on my way to Morrisons supermarket, which is at the end of the promenade, not far from the C&MHC site. I turned off the prom to go to Lidl, just out of town instead. I have never seen the roads into town so busy for the airshow before, but perhaps it is because it has been cancelled for the last 2 years and the weather was fine. One thing is for certain, high fuel prices had not put people off coming to see the show, considering practically every day we keep hearing about how hard up people supposedly are!

Well it was chaos! The journey which would normally take 50-60 minutes took 2 and half hours. Some of the roads that were planned to be closed from 3:00pm were shut at 12:30.
It took us over 30 mins to drive the stretch from Rotten Row roundabout to the one near the a park and Ride as the roundabout at the bottom was log jammed.I feel sorry for everyone caught up in it, tourists and residents both.
At least it only takes us 10 mins to plug in and get the kettle boiled - my throat thought my belly was cut (as my late brother used to say 😂).
Last time we were here for the Air Show was 7/8 years ago when the Vulcan was flying and I don’t remember it being this busy
Will be putting a big Red Cross on the calendar for next year as we won’t be doing this again.0 -
Last time we went was when the Vulcan did a fly past. We found it best to get a booking to start earlier in the week prior to the weekend of the show and then stay until the Monday morning.
If anybody is thinking about booking the Southport site for the air show in the future, it's a good idea to keep your eye on the 'Visit Southport' Website for details of the dates which obviously change due to the tides.
