    Nope.

Did join a queue of HGVs in Austria by mistake and got weighed, with a laugh from the policeman on duty!

Yes saw caravanners being asked to leave the M5 at Strensham services, general vehicle checks. I believe any suspected overweight outfits are taken to a weighbridge  Tow cars and vans were getting checked over at the services, random spot checks. It also happens elsewhere, A303 in our area summer holidays. Details published in local papers of worst offenders who were not allowed to continue travelling.

My outfit was once weight checked by the police. To save having to unhitch they didn’t check the MTPLM but only all the axle loads. The caravan’s axle load was found to be 130kg over the limit. They told me that I would have to unload before continuing the journey. After emptying the water tank and transferring a few heavier items into the car they were satisfied and I was on the road again. No fine issued.

OOOPS,  miss-understood the title there  embarassed

For a moment I thought it was commenting on the bulkiness of  the local police officers !

Certainly need to have a largish waist or they would not be able to carry all those things like taser, pepper spray, handcuffs, truncheon  etc etc etc.

Still, now back to the Thread Proper

Yes, police escort from A1 to a weigh bridge. Not a pleasurable experience at all, that ‘follow me’ sign, oh the trepidation and anxiety. Luckily I was legal but only just. Got a free printed certificate to prove it!🤣

Spotted a lovely Bessacarr 835 in a motorway services.

As I admired it, I noticed it had a large roof awning and AC as well as the usual motor movers.

Curious I looked up the MTPLM.

1978kg with option to increase to 2000kg, giving an absolute maximum payload of 182kg

    Take off,

    70kg Motor movers

    22kg Battery

    33kg A/C

    33kg Roof awning

...and you're left with about 24kg for everything that you put in.

Given the inaccuracies of MIRO the owner could be found to be overweight even with the 'van being completely empty  - I guess to be allowed to continue the battery could be removed, and the mattress and some cushions (assuming the tow vehicle has the capacity) - surprised
