Charging leisure battery

We were told so many things in the handover today of our Trigano Mini Freestyle 290, we have already forgotten half of it. It has a leisure battery and it looks like there is a 12v charger in there. Should we charge the battery at home by plugging the hookup into the mains? How often and should we run it down and then charge again? Do we need to take the battery out to charge, I don't think this was mentioned in the handover.

    If it's a smart charger you can leave it plugged in at home and it will only charge when the battery when it falls below a certain voltage. If not it depends how long you will keep in store  but with our battery it keeps it's charge for well over a few months even. It should charge when connected to your car? Normally you don't need to take the battery out to charge it if using the on board charger.

    I would look at your instruction book and/or ring the dealer again.

    Get some model numbers from the charger and do some research on it.

    I plug ours in for 24 hours once a month if not used in the meantime.  The local servicing guy says he does this and his battery is over 8 years old.  Ours was over 5 when we sold the van earlier this year.  Alternatively use a trickle / maintenance charger - I use one on the motorbike when not in use, and I think the last one was over ten years old before I swapped bikes - even using the bike charger on the van occasionally.
