Cannot find CL's on map on this site

I rejoined the club after a ten year absence where we were mainly touring Europe so no point in joining really. So I am busy searching CL sites for a long tour of the UK this year and I am frustrated to see that club website is worse than it ever was. I cannot find anything and its so slow it feels like dial up all over again.

I am trying to search by Map for CL sites in Devon and Cornwall. I tick the box for CL sites when I eventually find the search by map facility and take off the tick for Club sites. All I get is the club sites, no CL's. I am just using the excellent searchforsites website as it pretty much has most of them on but not all of them.

Am I doing something wrong or is it just broken?

EDIT: I Cant even add a screen shot URL!  Will try and add it as a picture

Plan B. Use the campsite search facility on UKCampsite.co.uk and click the filter for member only sites - you can get a map that way. It will include CS as well as CLs

Thanks, Yes I can do that which is kind of what I am doing with https://www.searchforsites.co.uk/

Do you know if UKcampsites is up to date though.  I did find a really useful map on here of all the Off grid CLs which is what we prefer.

However I would still like to be able to just use this website but the way it is right now its just not possible. It took me 40 seconds just to open this thread to see your post.

Have you tried the club's app? I have just done a trial run on that, using Truro as the centre of my 25 ml radius search, and the result is showing 76 sites, Club, AS and CLs, in total by map and listing. Using the search criteria of CLs with EHU, H/S, Open all year, and dogs welcome there are 19 CLs listed.

Using "search by map" on the club's website just now, again with Truro as the centre of a 20 ml search area, it has shown the location of 61 CLs in total.

I tried the map, and got what you show, but maybe you made the same mistake as me.

After removing the tick for Club sites and ticking for CLs, you need to click that green search button again.

OH finds our sites, she prefers  to use the app initially, and also likes the search function on UK Campsite.

I confess to preferring the paper map when researching CLs, then armed with a possible number looking it up in the manual.

Snag is the paper map tends to disintegrate after 12 months use of folding and re-folding.

    Just a personal reference!

I had a strange occurrence with the on line map today. I was trying to look for CL sites using Whitby as the locus and got a message "Sorry no sites found" ( or words to that effect). Tried it with Scarborough, and North Yorkshire Moors with the same result. However when I used Carlisle as the locus it produced the expected result, and also the same using Conway.

I have just gone back to the map, put in Whitby, again, and get the same message "No available sites found", and the same for York. But using Cardiff the expected results appear!!!!

What the heck is going on? Would someone please report my post?

Cheers, WN.👍 If you have a spare few minutes could you have a bash at doing a map search using Whitby as locus and see what you come up with, if you don't mind, please.?

I have emailed the technical dept reporting it too, but you know what they are like in responding to direct postings!!!😲

    Hi Nellie.

Sorry about delay I was 'orff doing something else.

As far as CAMC maps are concerned Whitby doesn't exist!! Yorkshire exists and North Yorkshire exists but neither of them include Whitby.

We'll have to wait and see what they say.

Have just tried it again and neither the North Yorkshire Moors Club Campsite, nor the Scarborough West Ayton Club Campsite, or the Bridlington Club Campsite exist, according to the search results!!

Have just typed in York and it gives me the two club sites to select from, then selecting either results in "no sites found". Ignore those choices and select search and the map displays 50 locations, club sites and CLs, within 20 mls of York. (Shaking head imoji)

Quite honestly I don't see the problem, just select Club Site or Cl or both open map to full screen and zoom in to Whitby.

I assume what the OP wants to do is have a blanket view of CL's in a particular area, Devon and Cornwall being mentioned. It seems that you are best going into the drop down menu and selecting a town which will then bring up all the CL's in that area. The problem with that is that it doesn't give you a wider map view of the CL's available. When you select a CL and click on "map" the CL does show, so they are there. Putting to one side the habitual problems we have with the forum even the main site is poor. Having said that if you use the App on your phone or tablet it does come up with all the available Club sites and CL's, see below.

Which is exactly the same result as Search by map on PC.

But surely the whole idea of the map is to be able to select a specific town, by typing in its name and not having to go right though the drop down menu, and focus in on that area. The question I asked is why it works fine for some places but not others, particularly those in N.Yorkshire.

I am so sorry you have had issues with this. It is an intermittent known issue. We're working hard to launch our new booking platform which will be landing soon and will replace this page.

'You' have apparently been working on this website for years ..... it's hard to tell though. It must be the slowest site on the web despite it frequently being down overnight for maintenance.

Thanks, Ro.  I have had an email saying that they (whoever they are) will look into the issues I raised.

Let's hope that the new booking platform works more effectively than the current one.

Firstly apologies for not responding for a while. We are away now down in the south west and I forgot about the thread to be honest.

That is exactly what I have been doing and its still not working. See screenshot below.  I am using Google chrome.  Ive just been resorting to using Searchforsites but as said, for all I know I could be missing a few. Site is still way too slow also.  Thanks for the suggestions to use the phone app but I really dont like them. Much easier on a laptop with a big screen where you can copy and past post codes, wack them straight into google maps etc, work out routes and then send them straight to my sat nav.

We used searchforsites for our latest Dumfries and Galloway tour a couple of weeks ago. We found it by far easiest website to use, allows you to discard any kind of sites you don’t want, utilise a certain radius of travel. You cannot rely on CAMC CL information being correct, we have encountered numerous instances where CLs on map are incorrectly located.

If you like to mix up your sites, rather than sticking to anything purely “Club”, S4S is very useful.

Its a shame the Club don't make the App available from the Microsoft Store then you could use the App on your laptop. I also use a laptop when I am away but have usually already decided which sites I will use on a trip so have no need to make changes once on the road. (I am of course assuming you are using a Windows laptop?)

    Nellie

Apps are operating system dependent. I am not sure what system a Kindle uses. Margaret's (very old) Kindle seems to be compatible with Windows, in as much as you can see and move files, perhaps this has changed over the years?  I think the Club only supply the App in Android and Apple format which is usually fine for a smart phone or tablet using the same system. Whilst on the subject of Kindle, Margaret has been informed by Amazon that soon she may not be able to download books because her device is getting too old. Looks like an easy choice for a Christmas presentlaughing Be interesting see how they have evolved over the years.

I usually use Safari, but am now on Chrome, on an i pad, and have tried the map search, it works fine for me.
