Giro D’Italia

Another great stage win for Simon Yates, certainly a comeback after his difficult day earlier in the week, which put pay to his hopes of winning the Giro.
Tda, I see that Tom Dumoulin did not start the stage today, but don't know the reason.

Was it Tom D who was shaking hands with riders just before the start, I only ask because who ever it was was suffering with pretty severe back problems. I could not hear the full tale due to neighbour having a B~B~Q !! Well I couldn't complain ~~ He chose to feed ME !!

ABM, I see that Tom D has decided to retire from competitive cycling which is such a pity, so this year's Giro was his last major race.
Also Greg LeMond, previous TdeF winner, has stated that he has Leukaemia, although a non-agressive form which is not life threatening.

Just noticed in scrolling round FREEVIEW last night that the Giro d'Italia is on tv { Dmax at 7.00pm } again == caught it purely by chance, just in time to see Mark Cavendish come a cropper with a handful of others about 5K from the finish !
Welcome back to the First Aid Tent Mr Cavendish, Sir

Yes, we caught the first day, time trial. Missed it tonight though. Poor Cav, hope he’s ok. Be so good if he could get to TdeF, he really inspires on that race.

Cav looks to be fine, finishing in the top 6 today. The big surprise is that GT is in pink, even if by default after the race leader Remco Evenepoel had to withdraw after testing positive for Covid-19. It will be extremely interesting to see if he can hold off Primoz Roglic. Ineos do have another string to their bow with Tao Geoghegan Hart, a previous Giro winner, lying third.

Not only are the conditions in Italy causing all sorts of problems teams are also suffering in having members testing positive for Covid and having to abandon the race.

I see that TGH has fractured his left hip so it will be a while before he can compete again, unfortunately.

He also one the spring version the day before. He is some rider across so many disciplines!!

That’s a bad accident. Haven’t managed to watch that much of race this year, hopefully will get to see final week. Cheering G on, he deserves another win.
Tom Pidcock is an amazing bike rider across different cycling disciplines.👍

Bad weather over the coast couple of days have curtailed the racing somewhat, with the favourites waiting for better conditions before really getting down to business. It hasn't helped that there have been 44 withdrawals already, so most teams are below full strength.

It was indeed. Great to see G doing well, fingers crossed now he can take it to the final day. Primoz Rogliz didn’t look too comfortable to me, we have missed some of race, but I gather he might have been injured in a fall?

GT has extended his lead today, but Primoz was pushing it so it looks as if the Pink Jersey is going to one of those two. What happens over the next two days should decide the ultimate victor. Hope GT can be that guy.

Exciting finish yesterday, it looked as though G had got the better of Rogliz, but then the tables turned. Going to be an exciting finish to this race🤞

G's legs gave out in the last kms and so was beaten by Primoz by 40 seconds on the day, and so finished second on the stage and 14 secs adrift overall. So near but yet so far!!😥 However he has proved that he still has it at 37 and has beaten a lot of younger well known, top notch riders.

A great final stage for the Brits, even though GT came second overall, with Mark Cavendish winning it, with the help of GT on the leadout. He becomes the oldest rider at 38 to win a stage of the Giro, and has won a stage each time he has raced in the event.

Fabulous end to the race, another iconic “Cav” moment, and a fellow Olympian mate helping out again. Shades of when Brad led him onto the Champs Elysees in the TdeF all those years ago. I really felt for Thomas, he came so close, but Rogliz has had his own bad luck as well. Dauphine next,m then the TdeF……

If anyone is interested, “Chasing Legends” documentary film is available free to watch at the moment. Superb film of the 2009 TdeF, interwoven with some of the race’s history…
Can’t post a link, but Google….Chasing Legends Dailymotion
