Hi

I wonder if anyone has heard of SIMEKS LTD and/or had dealings with them.  I am a complete novice and I am currently buying a motor home through them online.   However my son has queried whether or not they are genuine or if its an elaborate scam - something do do with him researching their VAT number? Would welcome any feedback. Thanks

Mandy

    Hello and welcome.

I haven't heard of the company but that means little. PLEASE be very careful there have been or are still some scams involving everything including motorhomes. I certainly wouldn't consider purchasing without seeing before paying ANY money.

If it isn't a scam take someone with you, preferably someone who knows lots about them! You can ask an independent engiineer for a fee - a reasonable outlay to save a very expensive mistake.

When I try to access their website, all I get is this message - same applies to their contact page:

    Forbidden

You don't have permission to access this resource.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Must confess, I'm not sure what it means, but it doesn't bode well.

Check on Companies House Register.  There is a Simek Ltd, in Basingstoke who deal in second hand cars.  That being said, on occasions some rogue traders use legitimate companies details as part of a scam.  I would go and standing front of the vehicle, if they try to fob you off walk away

I too can’t find anything on the net, no reviews, no major trading info, it smells bad. I’d not lay any money out at all. You need to visit the premises without an invite. If this was me I’d be walking in the opposite direction. Everything the authorities tell us to be wary of is in this companies play book. If a company is legit they don’t make it hard to find them. There are a multitude of suppliers out there that have a presence with a track record that can be accessed, SIMEKS LTD is not one of them☹️

I have briefly carried out a couple of searches not openly available to all.  Something is not right.  I would therefore advise extreme caution.  It may be as Oneputt suggests a genuine company name innocently being used in a scam operation.

Can you post a link to any advertisements you may have seen?

One other thing if they suggest you go to see the van at their home make sure you see the seller enter of exit the house, not just the garden.  If you don’t see them do that knock on a neighbours door and ask if the neighbour know them.  Don’t be embarrassed to do this

Mandy, you've been given some good advice here.

There are numerous scams around involving the sale of motorhomes and many feature on that well known auction site where dealers' websites are often copied. I even know of someone whose van picture was copied from a forum avatar and used in a sale advert.

The general advice is never to buy a van unseen and only from the owner's premises. This one smells to be perfectly honest and I'd not entertain it at all.

Good luck and it's good you're seeking advice.👍

Thanks everyone for all the good advice.  These scammers are so clever.  I checked it was a registered company and saw that they had posted returns in February this year but on reflection I think they have used the SIMEKS name.  This is their site.

Good call👍🏻. Not many companies have an address on a run down housing estate in Basingstoke. I think you surely dodged a bullet🤷🏻‍♂️

Each item I've seen when googling, comes back 'page unavailable'.
