Ferries To Guernsey or Jersey with a dog

Hi,

We have a caravan and a motorhome as I have mentioned here before.

We are looking after our Grandog in August from the 12th, 10 days.

As our Schengen days are quite tight, going over to the continent is not an option due to A The Dog and B limited Schengen Days.

Thats Brexit for you !

So I thought the next best thing may be The Channel Islands?

So a few questions?

Are dogs allowed on the Ferry?
Do you pay for Dogs on the Ferry?
Would you go in the Motorhome or the Car+Caravan?
Jersey or Guernsey ?

I was thinking the Caravan May be best for exploring as we do not know much about the islands, campsites (I think they have to be pre-booked) and public Transport.

It seems you can Book Condor Ferries for the Motorhome up to 7m. Caravans you have to email them.

Any suggestions welcome please?

I can’t answer your questions but you’ll find much here -

    https://www.jersey.com

You’ll also find loads of stuff online in places like the Condor Ferries website. I researched it once and decided it would be Jersey with the option of taking a trip to Guernsey but we never went.

    PS. Check this out -

There’s a lot of information on the FAQ page on Condor Ferries website. For example it explains Dogs go free but must stay in the car. Read through those FAQ’s.

But there are serious limits of size of vehicles on the fast ferry, and you wouldn’t want a dog in the car for ten hours on the conventional ferry.

There are also serious limits of the number of permits granted by Jersey and Guernsey governments to take caravans and motorhomes on to the islands.

You need a long talk with Condor Ferries customer service in the morning.

We've visited a lot of times, Sark, where we have family (no vehicles) also Jersey and Guernsey. We had a successful van (pvc) holiday on Jersey a few years back. No problems, a car is useful but hire cars are popular too. We took our dogs on that trip, they stayed in the van on the car deck as they were used to similar journeys.

If you take a caravan to Jersey you are asked to go directly to the site booked, no deviation! Thoroughly recommend both the larger islands with a van. Good bus services too.

    Opt for the fast ferry.

Buy a parking card on the ferry which you need to display when parking on the island you have chosen.

PS it's an expensive trip to undertake with a van but we enjoyed the adventure.

Jersey is the largest island but is more on it's own, for trips to other islands Guernsey is a better base.

The islands have a nice mix of English and French so it's an enjoyable half way house. smile
