A practical electric motorhome is not far away

Fair point👍🏻☹️. There’s the usual feeding frenzy if anyone dares to step out of the 20th century.
Goodnight John Boy. . .

what ever ..... 🥱
An EV is an expensive purchase what ever kind of vehicle it is, so has to be all things to most men. But there are lots of men that they don't work for yet. Great if they do though & I would like to think that one would work for me ... eventually!

‘All things to most men’?, pssst-ED, 2 of my nieces are female & each own an EV they bought them with their own money too😳. Brue owns an EV👍🏻. It’s allowed these days females have equality(in most folks eyes) work is needed on CT I realise that☹️

PD. . ,please don’t start em off again😢. Seriously now-VDubs cost up to £70k already, geez I shudder to think what VDub EV will demand🙄

Not stressing itself? With the amount of Motor caravans ,that now seem to tow a car and it is now more common the car is on a trailer ,
I cannot understand those that have a motor caravan followed by their large car being driven by another person?

The VW Buzz is basically a people carrier, so no real difference to an estate car. It's a long way from a 3.5 Ton + motorhome with a bigger aerodynamic drag.
We could easily replace OH's 9 year old i20 with an EV which we could charge at home (4Kw solar) and given the driving profile but there would be the carbon footprint of replacement plus the substantial capital outlay. Any current tax benefit will be relatively short-lived and can be discounted. The biggest drag is still availability of charging points for many.
I am shortly to undertake a 700 mile journey entailing two overnight stops, neither of which have electricity available. An EV motorhome with a probable range of around 150 miles will see me stranded somewhere about an hour south of Lille and even that is assuming I can recharge before catching the ferry at Dover.
In summary, EVs work for relatively local and occasional moderate length journeys and for local delivery white van man. Anything else isn't really realistic at the moment.

Well now CY ...
Here's how you could make savings on your 700 mile journey with an EV.
Electric Car Journey Calculator >LINK<
We run an EV car and a diesel motorhome, the shock of puting fuel into the M/H knocks us back each and every time!!

So you think mechanics fix cars these days? I suppose plugging in a diagnostic and following instructions on which box to change might count as such? Seems to me EVs will be subject to the same regime. I don’t think you’re provocative, but maybe someone acting like they know more on a subject than everyone else might be considered a bit arrogant?

SB. I think EV owners do understand a lot more than some non EV owners and I agree with Hitchglitch about misinformation, it's not arrogant to say that.
Every time we have an EV thread I'm inclined, as an EV driver to state the facts.
However if we could get back on thread about the possibilty of electric powered motorhomes it would be good.
I seem to recall van converters found the costs too high. I presume these issues will eventually be resolved.

No, CY has converted to using battery power for other things, an expensive undertaking which means he is relying on battery and gas. Gas is on the way out.
I was referring to the cost of the journey purely as a point of interest.
That's me now, I think I've said enough.

The 3.5 Ton + bit is the killer for me. A camper type vehicle isn’t what we want. From what I have read it would not be possible to replicate anything like our current MH at sub 3.5, because of the extra weight of the batteries. As of later this year when I trade in my licence for a more restricted version, that would be an issue.😀

but it can't ALL be 'misinformation' I realise that those that have problems will probably those that shout louder & more frequently than those that do not have problems, but the web seems to show that charging is often a problem, either not working, there's a queue, or the wrong type of charger. A large, heavy MH is going to need a large battery, that's going to take a long time to charge, if you need to charge on route will you have access to a charger for long enough?

I don't see it that way CY, if the long wheelbase model was fitted out as a camper the bodywork would be the same. I would have thought such a model with a 250 mile range would be fine for use in a small country like UK where travel distance are much less than touring over there. Cost to buy may initially be a problem but some or all of this could be off set against running costs and the possibility of high residuals

Don’t doubt it, my early remarks on this thread where about the future of energy production and the likelihood that EV might not prove to be a long-term sustainable technology in the light of newer technologies. It was highjacked by the usual suspects, especially those who clearly don’t understand what a luddite is!

Steve, I'm sure I read that driving licence restrictions had been raised from 3.5t to 4t(?) for EVs for that very reason.

Then why not use the correct word in the first instance?

Clearly not using the new Microsoft editing software ED.😂 Apparently it now prompts you :-
In addition, it proposes users change the word “mankind” in Neil Armstrong’s famous phrase “one giant leap for mankind” to “humankind’’ or “humanity
I fear the worst, they’ll probably make them change the plaque when we colonise the moon.☹️

I agree with you about HG's post. He's one of the few people here with both knowledge and practical experience. In no way is that arrogant.
As for lekky MHs, I've no doubt it will come but, in view of them constantly carrying near max laden weight, it's going to be further down the road than cars and small campervans.

OHs son has an EV a VW and as he said. Yesterday when we were talking ,take no notice of the figures banded about by sales guff ,especially the miles per charge as when in traffic (His Place of work is in Hammersmith ) He says even with the lack of traffic as in the past, ,he gets on a good run about three quarters of what is advertised ,,on a heavy traffic wet day it is a bout two thirds, but he does have a charge point at work
And on his garage at home
Ps miles per charge with EVs and mpg with ICE vehicles seem to about the same, has anybody reached what is in the advertisements

Like Humankind. . .Way more inclusive👍🏻. Mankind is from the 17th & 18th centuries when it was believed Females were just adornments & too fragile to work or think. The obvious fly in the ointment is childbirth-if Men gave birth there’d be no population explosion because we’d swerve the whole thing due to the pain-fact🤷🏻♂️
