A practical electric motorhome is not far away

What has the price of buying an EV as a tow car got to do with the subject in hand?

OK, OK, I get it. Nothing on earth will persuade some people that an EV of any sort is for them 🤷🏻♂️

Are you not always telling us to appreciate what the younger generation earn these days?
According to the ONS, in 2020 the average UK salary was £38,600 for a full-time role. I would suggest there are many who could afford the price, look around you and see what folk are already driving, not much under 30K in the south and south east and some in much more espensive vehicles...

Tinny-would you get an EV at some point?. I’m not being nosey but I deeply considered one when I bought a new truck recently, no EV can tug my trailer when I do wee guvvy jobs & deliver logs now & then🤷🏻♂️

I’ve already got one, Rocky, but it’s newly acquired so we've yet to establish how close it’ll get to its 300 miles max range. It’s performance is phenomenal but obviously, like any car, the best economy is obtained driving more sedately. We're mightily impressed by the adjustable regenerative braking which added several miles to our range just going down the hill from home.
Agreed, this model's not a work horse as you need but for 'normal' use seems to do what it says on the tin so far.👍🏻

You sly old Fox you👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Wow that is excellent. I knew you were a fan but not a go getter, future proofing & offsetting you carbon footprint Woohoo!. 1) So is the cockpit futuristic or is that hype, 2) are you willing to name it so I can do some research not an issue if you don’t want to👍🏻. 3) is it super quiet, 4) is it foot down & go?. Sorry, I’m excited for you😬🤭. Answer all or none it’s not an issue.

Many vehicles where we live are on lease contracts or company cars, ,one neighbour's family have five lease cars between them ,the VW camper just a few doors away is also leased
It seems it is only us oldies and younger adults who buy in this area

Ha, ha! Future proofing for sure and, hopefully, reducing any environmental impact. I’m happy to answer your enthusiastic questions.
- The cockpit is futuristic and very different from anything I’ve known before. It’s complete with an infotainment screen and many other features. The pic below is from the brochure.
- It's a Hyundai Kona with the 64kWh battery option.
- It is super quiet when stationary to the point I keep thinking the motor has cut out! It has a pseudo engine noise audible from outside for the benefit of pedestrians. On the move, all you hear is tyre/road noise.
- It sure is foot down and go as it reaches its full torque instantly. It’s very easy to over accelerate and get wheel spin so control is all part of the learning curve.
It is all pretty exciting for sure. Thanks for your interest👍🏻😀

JVB, I don't know what your point is, more and more people are buying electric vehicles, somehow or other they are doing it and companies are providing them too. If people want to buy a vehicle by a method that suits them it's up to them. In the future it might be the case that none of us own our vehicles and we just pick up the nearest one when needed, fully charged and ready to go...the wheels of progress are turning.

I think it was about the range to enable an EV to tow and the costs of what is available at this time, that may not need to many pit stops against the ice vehicles,
If you have found out in your post even dealers have to agree the ice vehicles are better for long distances unless you want longer journey times with multiple pit stops

I could equally say that if you were a motorhomer - the topic of this thread - then you might have something to add to the discussion.
Incidentally, I have not attempted to persuade you or anyone to buy an EV for any purpose. I have stated opinions and facts but have no interest at all in your personal choice.

Tinny will you use the EV as a general runaround or to take you to other holiday choices you have spoken about?. You are now part of the future, you actually own & have a stake in stopping our planet from flatlining. I envy you I really do👍🏻. Any immediate plans(Capt Kirk)🤔😂😂

Thanks but I’m doing nothing special. The future is for all of us to grab.
The EV will be a general runaround to start with then progressing to longer trips as our need for the PVC diminishes. Eventually I envisage us being ICE free but we have no immediate plans to boldly go😀🚀

AD isn't say that. But an all leccy vehicle won't meet many people's requirements while towing. Very definitely the case for my caravan with the majority of current all leccy vehicles. And while there are people like Chocy that seem to manage to find a suitable charging point it seems that YouTube is full of people that try to make all leccy work but fail to find enough suitable or working chargers. And these are people that have access to a private driveway .... those that live in flats/terraced housing/etc have no chance.
EVs have a long way to go before I'd be prepared to put my hand in my pocket & replace an ICE vehicle with one.

I’m not sure the same points apply as a MH will not be doing something it wasn’t built for as in stressing itself as a tow car may be.
However, it’s of no real interest to you as you've made plain.

Sorry about being provocative but having owned an EV for three years it gets very frustrating to read misinformation and scepticism from those who have never owned one, never researched the topic and jump to erroneous conclusions. Having said that, I agree that there are problems with initial cost, range and charging infrastructure which will delay development of battery driven motorhomes. I believe these problems will be overcome in due course but time will tell.
Electric drive trains are so simple compared with combustion engines. Just think about what you don’t need - fuel system, exhaust system, gearbox, clutch, cooling systems etc. Many garages and mechanics are going to be out of business.
Battery life will far exceed vehicle life and then there is the potential to use old batteries (less than 70% of original capacity) for energy storage. By that time there may be a way or recycling. Actually, Lithium is not a massive problem (they can mine it in Cornwall!) but Cadmium and other rare elements are problematic which is why batteries are evolving away from Cadmium.

I haven’t referred to AD or anyone in particular in that post. You jump to conclusions.

Really? I wrote it so I think I’m in the better position to say what, if any, the implications were.
Why drag the thread off topic by nit picking?

I see what you did there😂😂. Will you be posting any pics at all🤔

Look at the title of the thread ED-it’s about an ‘Electric Motorhome, EV’s’ not caravans or ICE tugs. no one is interested in towing requirements that is a red herring🤷🏻♂️☹️

😂😂😂
I could but don't you think it could further wind up the folk who have no interest, especially as it's not a lekky MH? 🤔
