Fiat Ducato motorhome central locking

2022 Swift Escape 694 - latest series 8 Ducato cab.  If the cab and habitation doors are all locked, and I unlock all the doors using the button on the key fob when inside the van, first thing in the morning for example, then step outside, after one minute all the doors automatically and I’m locked out if the keys have been left inside. As long as I open a cab door after unlocking, all doors will stay unlocked. This is a real “gotcha”, and at present we ensure keys are on us at all times, or we briefly open and close a cab door.  I have trawled through all the multifunction display settings operated from the steering wheel, including ‘vehicle settings’ and ‘security’ but nothing mentions the locking process. Has anyone else come across this, and if so has a cure been found. Thanks

    It’s the way it is I think🤷🏻‍♂️

We have a non-chipped key hidden outside the van just in case we get locked out.

It's also being discussed here -

You say you unlock all the doors with the button on the key fob. Do you also lock them that way when your in the van for the night. Perhaps using the door lock button on the dash to lock / unlock when actually in the van would have a different outcome.  The two methods certainly have a different function in ours. Using the fob also sets the alarm, whilst the dash button does not. Although our Fiat based van does not auto lock, which is starting to seem like an advantage.

Thanks for the replies. Through another source it seems (incredibly) that the auto lock function is disabled through the cab radio menu!  Only Italian eh

No idea what the cab radio menu is, but my money would be on an on/off option accessed via the MODE button. Press briefly, scroll through the menu options, select option and briefly press MODE to set and clear.

Was interested in this so did a bit more research. Seems if you’ve got the Fiat U-connect radio system fitted, the auto lock option is indeed accessed via the settings menu (doors & locks). However, if not, presume it’s via the MODE options?

Yes, the 2022 Series 8 cab no longer has the mode button as on previous models, with all multifunction menus accessed via the steering wheel. Having gone through every section, not one mentions auto lock. It seems it is available via the new radio menu. Will try later.

So is the U-connect system now standard on all 2022 vans or do you get to choose your own media system? Beyond the U-connect system, the only  relevant reference I could see was ‘auto closure’ which isn’t the same as auto lock, the former being automatic door locking once the van achieves a certain speed.

The radio is the standard one now fitted to the new Series 8 cab (there is a more upmarket version on the “deluxe” cabs with built in SatNav and other functions). I am not sure what u-connect is, but pretty sure it’s not in ours, though in fairness I haven’t got totally to grips with the radios abilities yet.  From other reports, the auto lock issue does affect all makes of motorhomes using the new Ducato series 8 (which in our case is the 160 hp/9 speed auto version and is an absolute joy to drive).  I will try the radio menu approach this week when away.

Not just Italians practically all  modern vehicles now are controlled through an infotainment system. Where once was situated a basic radio now find a computerised unit with a display screen linked with the SAT Nav, internet, phone and of course, also the car’s own engine/vehicle management system.

We have this problem but can’t access the settings via the radio as we have had a Pioneer head unit installed. Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix? Thanks

Fiat Ducato auto door locking settings are accessed with Fiat  Multiecuscan software.

Hmmm……following this with interest as I can’t lock the rear doors on my 2023 Auto-Trail campervan. Am I missing something here! I’m awaiting my local Fiat dealer to order a lock in. NOW, I find I can’t lock the passenger door or large side door which is why I’m thinking I’m missing something obvious. It can’t be just coincidence. I’ve been through the handbook but nothing in it that helps. I’m thinking all I need is a quick visit to a dealership just to verify as to whether it’s me or the vehicle!
