Renault Master

We have a 20 year old Renault Master with cracked shower tray and cracked washroom sink unit. There is also water seepage in the external corner of the washroom, most likely linked to the cracks. Devon Conversions, who did the original conversion 20 years ago, are too busy to help and we are struggling to find someone else to fix it.  Does anyone have any recommendations, preferably in the south west of Scotland.  All suggestions gratefully received.

Trish, like you we have an 'oldish' 'van ours is 2002 with 172,000 miles on the clock. We bought it in 2004 so we've had good use out of it!

The problem with older vans is that big firms are not interested in time- of consuming work that would involve  improvising and fixing and fitting of non-standard parts. For instance, we had our cracked shower attachment replaced by a single mixer tap (2nd hand) by a mobile caravan repair service. Similarly, our local garage fixed our leaking waste water outlet by using parts fro B&Q.

You can try to fix smaller cracks and leaks by yourself. Use hard-plastic glue not super glue. You can also try 'plastic steel'. You should be able to get these on-line of from a hardware shop.

The shower tray does look bad. The tray base flexes as you stand on it and that's what leads to the cracking around the rigid outlet. Try patching it up to reduce the leakage and stop using your shower. It really needs to be taken out and a near as you can get replacement fitted. Try to find a small repair shop or plumber or garage who could take on the work. Some small garages can be very helpful.

Thanks Chas and Cath. That's very helpful. We don't use the shower as a shower, but want it to be waterproof anyway. I think the water is tracking from the sink unit which is cracking up and brittle with age. Yes, they are all too busy selling new vans unfortunately.
