Oliver King Foundation
Fabulous news today, the Oliver King Foundation has taken a massive step forward to ensure Defibrillators are installed in all schools and leisure centres. Furthermore, through endless and relentless campaigning by Oliver’s father, the training of defibrillator use has taken a huge step forward to being included on the school curriculum. Let’s hope the necessary legislation follows very quickly. So many more young lives are being saved and will be saved as a result of this man’s campaign.

Despite there being far more defibrillators out there in our communities than there were ten years ago how many of us know where our closest unit is or what to do with it in an emergency? There is, I believe, one on every C&MC site in the land available to all of us and ready to use. The units are all within easy reach grab and go, you just need to familiarise yourself as to how to use one well in advance of that dreaded moment possibly occurring. That time taken searching for someone else who is familiar with use, possibly in the middle of the night, may make the difference between life and death.
I had the privilege some years ago to visit Denmark on business where I witnessed school children being taught how to use these life savers. As a result, many Danish children, some very young, are now saving the lives of family members and also those of total strangers. Isn’t it time we all knew how to use one! I for one support the Oliver King Foundation in their efforts. We can all do our bit, we could all possibly save a life!

Our nearest one is outside our local fire station, about 400 metres away. Before covid our local GP practice ran regular CPR courses on a Saturday. The last one we attended also included using a defibrillator. It’s certainly worth being familiar with the procedure, although the machine provides instruction. Hopefully they will start running refreshers again soon.

Absolutely no idea if/where our local one is! But I know where there is one in my late mum's village.
On the positive side as far as OH is concerned he has his own personal one implanted after 'performing' 3 years ago. Not much use to the rest of us though. Thankfully it hasn't been needed since insertion 🤞
I really think first aid should be taught and refreshed to all school children. Both OH and our children were first aid trained and keep it up. Son went on to be a physio. Because they we good I only picked up bits

This web site could be invaluable when away from home. I guess most of us know where our local ones are situated, but how about near where we may be staying ? OK, Club sites have them, but members are increasingly using CLs.
I have found a free App which does a similar job. 'Staying Alive' is available for android - I'm sure it's also on Apple.

Nor the one closest to us in our park. Needs updating, but a good resource nonetheless.
