Camping in the Forest

From the early 70s until the late 80s, we had many great holidays caravanning on the Forestry Commission sites in the New Forest, mainly on Roundhill.
The weather always seemed to be hot and sunny. Organised nature walks could be undertaken in the evenings with expert guides showing you things you would never see. obv Roaming ponies and their foals were to be found right outside (or in!) your awning. Lots of happy campers, no rigidity to parking as there was so much space.
Great memories, no doubt we grew up in happy simple times that will never be repeated with the rush for servived hardstanding pitches on miniscule plots of land.

Living relatively close to the New Forest, CITF is a big draw for me for local short breaks at reasonable prices. It would be a shame to lose some lovely sites whoever is running them.

"The New Forest sites are very nice, some non ehu sites there are relaxed about where people pitch as long as they keep the distance rule etc. I think this is where C&CC will really miss out, although they run some good THS in the area."
From what I hear, quite how long they will be doing that with effectively a "tourist tax" being levied on land owners by the NF District Council, awaits to be seen.
Greed personified, and in the case of THSs targeted indirectly at many families who can afford little else than that form of annual break.

As of yesterday there was a similar thread started on the C&CC forum, possibly prompted by WTG's starting this thread? There may well be things we can complain about this Club but it seems we are far better informed than the other Club? Does the C&CC have a presence on Facebook?
