Club Volvo offer
Does anyone know if the Volvo XC60 offer has got to be used with the finance package or can you get the considerable discount and pay cash up front ?

The answer is in the FAQ, Wedgy.

It says "Yes – there is a discount offer for you to buy a car and make your own finance arrangements".
Buying outright is making your own finance arrangements so there is a discount. Whether it’s the same amount remains to be seen. Overall the T&Cs are a bit restrictive and I don’t think I’d bother in view of the terms.

I once read an article that said that Ford only survived by the money they earnt from selling cars on credit, not making cars!!! I wonder if there is a misconception that paying cash should entitle you to a better discount when virtually all car dealers are set up to sell cars on some form of credit. You could check out the likes of Carnow to see if you can get a better price but again that might depend on it being purchased on credit?

You might get an additional discount for using the dealer's or Volvo's own financial arrangements, over and above that offered by being a club member. We did when we purchased our XC60, but that was 5 yrs ago.

I am sure that you have the right to ask for a settlement figure for a finance agreement any time you want.

In 2019 I bought a new Audi A3 on a pcp. Audi offered about £3K discount for taking out the pcp finance and the dealer knocked about £2.5K off the price to get a sale
I collected on a Friday and cleared the finance on the following Monday after getting a settlement fee. The £5.5K saved was far higher than any cash discount purchase I had been offered.
You really do need to look at all alternative methods to get the best deal.

I would first find out how long the delivery time is for the car you want…… then get best internet price from a broker (carwow, broadspeed etc) then look at the manufacturers finance offer with that discounted price. As others have said if the manufacturer finance includes a further discount then take it and settle the balance after a few days. I have done that and got cheap finance rate too. However with current supply delays discounts are harder to come by and there are very few cheap finance offers. I was lucky to get my new car last month ordered last September with 0% and 14% discount - deal is no longer available, now 2.9% finance and smaller discount.
