Toilet flush problem

Hi, I have a problem with the motorhome toilet, every time we flush water into the bowl, it’s full of black bits , it doesn’t matter how many time I put clean water in the flush tank ,still flushing black bits, it looks really bad, can’t seem to cure , any help out there please.

    It's algae caused by the pink flushing additive. Stop using pink and it will eventually go away.

    Yes algae from pink additive.  You don't have any additive in the wc flush at home so I do not use anything in the flush in my caravan.

    Easy don't leave the pink flush in the tank when your motorhome is not in use

    Better still, don’t use it at all. Save a few £ and stop getting algae in one easy move. It’s totally unnecessary to add it to the flush water and we haven’t used it for many, many years. Our current van uses the fresh water tank for flushing so there’s no way we could use it even if we wanted to.

    But toilets at home don't flush into a holding cassette & use somewhat more water .... I just use a splash of pink in the flush tank which doesn't produce black bits. But Anyway .... black don't cause any harm .... they get flushed away.

    We flush direct from the water tank, but my wife likes to regularly spray that pink stuff around the bowl to make the loo smell nicer. When she does I notice black bits when emptying the cassette and it’s not no 2s!

    We use the pink flush and after the flush we press the flush button thus leaving the pink flush in the bowl thus no smells. The only time we have had black bits is when I forgot to empty the flush tank

    All of the above is valid but I would thoroughly flush the toilet flush header tank with clean water.From personal experience,the black gunge can seize up the flush pump impellor.This is rectifiable by removing and cleaning the pump but it involves a lot of hand contortion and much cursing of the toilet's designer.It is also a pain to fit the pump and flush jet back in their locations.- I know having done it.Prevention is better than cure,believe me!

    Plain water in the flush tank, and a hand spray of diluted scented Zoflora disinfectant around the bowl. You could also add a splash of the Zoflora to the tank if you wish. The blacklist will eventually disappear.

    I went green some years ago and have no black bits problem. Just one bottle to carry with just use a dash to colour the flush water whilst adding 75g of fluid and 2L of water in the waste tank. No smells, no problems, easy.

    Thanks everyone,yes I’ve been using pink flush, but no more. I clean the tank out and just use water, from now on.

    Thetford suggest some bleach in the flush tank will remove the black bits.  We have used Puriclean as we use in the water system, that works too.

    We never use pink, but do occasionally get a few black bits, generally on the first trip of the year, soon  clears away.

    For the  holding tank we use green tabs or Lidl Formil bio washing pods, rather than the Elsan blue sachets we used to use.  

    Light to carry and easy to use.  Gave up liquids about 15 years back.

    I have been using the pink stuff for years and continue to do so. Over time the holding tank does get a build up of the stuff that causes the black bits. The simple solution to this is to use Thetford tank cleaner. I put a goodly dose of the tank cleaner into the header tank and then fill with warm/hot water. Leave in place for 24 hours  and then flush into the cassette. A second filling of the flushing tank with warm/hot water and flushing that through I find solves the problem for at lease the coming season.

    Thetford sell the pink flush liquid which causes the algae and then sell tank cleaner to remove it. Forgive my cynicism but I think they’re on a winner there🤣🤣🤣

    I can't see a problem even if you do get some black bits in the flush .... it'll end up in a holding tank with poo!

    I always thought the Thetford tank cleaning stuff was intended for cleaning the holding tank?

    I think we have some of it somewhere, need to read what the label says.

    When we had a caravan we occasionally got these black bits, usually worst when it had been in storage over winter etc..  We now have a motorhome, the toilet flush has no separate tank, it all comes from the under floor tank same as the taps.. After lack of use, over winter etc, we still get black bits initially in the toilet flush. I believe it just forms in the toilet pump and associated pipework which remains damp when not in use. After a few days it goes on its own.

    I believe if you retro fit a sog unit it vents through the cassette door.
