Battery size

Hi all,  

I'm new on here and totally new to caravans. 

We have a new bailey's phoenix plus 640 on order and need to sort out all the items we need.  The caravan dealer sells a starter pack for £475 but looking on ebay i could buy it all for about £300!.  The only problem I'm having is trying to find out the battery size, anyone know?

Also does the fresh water pipe from the tank which plugs into the side of the caravan come with it or is this something i have to source?

    Assuming you've stuck around for the past few weeks .... I'd get as big an Amp/hr battery I could but bear in mind that the physical size of batteries vary so you obviously need to consider that. I'd go to a place that just does batteries rather than a camping place or Halfords etc

    Yes, you should get the pump & pipe with the caravan.

    You will need to measure the battery box on the caravan to make sure the battery will fit  most go for a 100/120 amp hour leisure battery, as pointed out you get the inlet water pipe but you will need a waste pipe to run into you waste water container you can buy these off ebay and cut to size. Most caravans come with a step and the long orange hook up lead

    I suppose it will depend a bit on the dealer. When we first bought a van ours gave us a list of what we would need and we could pick and choose, so we’re able to source some things ourselves. We left the battery to them, as we then didn’t have to worry about size. They asked how we intended using the van and recommended an appropriate battery, which was far from the most expensive. The van will come with the fresh water pipe. Our dealer threw in a metre of waste tube, 25 metre EHU and a plastic step, so don’t buy those without checking.

    One other thing you will need is gas. Calor and other bottles are very difficult to come by at the moment. Worth discussing with your dealer. If they are part of the £475 package, it may be worth going for it.

    Bear in mind that the bigger the battery the heavier it is and caravans have a parsimonious payload.

    Do caravans not come with leisure batteries these days? Cheap skates!

    All my caravans and motorhomes, purchased as new, have come with batteries installed.

    I'm afraid not our last two caravans have just come with a plastic step and the hook up cable and with our last caravan we even had to pay for a hitch cover emblazoned with dealers details and  logo !!!

    Now that IS cheapskate Amesford!!  Our van has just been in for it's third service and I said to the dealer that the hitch cover - with their details on - was looking a bit tatty and they provided a new one foc. (And so they should - I'm giving them free advertising!)

    Different times now - but when we returned to caravanning about 7 years ago - we bought a new van and got a complete starter pack of battery, aquaroll, wastemaster and a few other bits and pieces, all thrown in with the deal.

    ... to which one solution is not to bother with the hitch cover, rather than paying to advertise such a mean dealer smile

    We have lots of them, great as waterproof/frost covers for water barrel, reusable garden  rubbish bags, etc. laughing

    The free advertising did not do them much good  they went out business a couple of years ago, I wonder why ?

    Buy a used caravan, you may well find that most of the things you need are included.  I bought my Bailey  (the one in the pic)  in 2012 when it was 3 yrs old didn't have an awning but it had all the other 'essentials'.  Still giving me trouble free caravanning.  Oh, I recall it didn't have a hitch cover, when I asked for one to be included the dealer asked if it would be a deal breaker, I replied 'maybe' and a cover appearedcool.  That dealer is still doing thriving business.
