New Site Booking System

Obviously, 'common sense' isn't that common round here...as we are definitely in the camp that doesn't find a stiff breeze a reason for cancelling a trip.
there will always be adverse driving conditions in the UK (wind, rain, frost etc) at any time of the year but a smaller MH doesn't seem to be too much affected by the above, unless 'extreme'.
there's a big difference between driving when it's 'windy' and in a storm..
...and, despite not having had a caravan, I'll go along with Steves post that using a MH is a different proposition to towing a caravan...they are affected to a different scale in adverse conditions.
this doesn't mean to say we will drive in anything...but we left the Blenheim Palace area at the end of November and on the morning we were due to leave, there was a snow flurry...our pals immediately decided to stay another day, but we were moving south to Brockenhurst and I checked the forecast for more southerly areas...a clear bright day.
we had only gone a few minutes down the A34 and the sun came out and it was just another sunny autumn day..
we've also hit some pretty heavy rain while driving down through France in winter time, but you can adjust speed etc to suit conditions.
there's not just an on/off switch..we (folk) adapt driving to correspond to changes in road conditions.
If everyone in the uk cancelled trips (not just to sites) based on our weather forecasts, no one would ever go anywhere..

I've done the same on a few occasions when not initially being able to book a full 1 or 2 weeks because a couple of days are fully booked and have spoken to many members that have done the same, will this be a risk worth taking when deposits are involved, I doubt it, this maybe a reason the ccc club has so many discounts and offers are they unable to fill all their pitches.

Straight answer DK, I'm not 100% sure. During the last training time the 72 hour rule was mentioned but I'm having brain fog and can't remember. I'll go hunt through the reams of paperwork later and see if I can see anything.

Good question AD. So, if as you say you do 4 bookings then it will be 4 deposits. If you amend your original booking it will still be one booking so one deposit.

That’s common sense JK thanks from me👍🏻

Brue
Seems to be about 5% which doesn't sound too bad to me either!!! I suppose that figure would grow to, perhaps, 10% if you allowed for the fact that not 100% of pitch nights will be booked. Maybe a more worrying aspect of those figures could be that, having and extra 5/10% of pitches possibly available is that really going to solve the availability problem?

The system is a good system ,unfortunately it relies on human nature not to abuse the system, and their lies the problem
The system has design faults .which relies on all members not abusing those flaws ,and practical real world application of the system, has shown many members do abuse those flaws0 -
You calculation is not applicable. The 25+% is a calculation of the total nights booked ,against cancelled , not gross capacity

Weather very unlikely to put us off, but we would change our routes. I have witnessed high sided vans go over on the A1 on more than one occasion in high winds, and we have often been out in snow. Strong winds are easier with MH, but a big 4x4 towing van is easier in snow. I don’t think the Club could do anything else but keep the deposit though for a no show. Too many variables.

It’s certainly the case that the C&CC have a lot of special, limited time offers, as well as the very generous age related discount. It does make me wonder if they struggle to fill their sites. Well more so than the CAMC who’s discounting is minimal. Those C&CC we have visited seemed similarly full to this club, however presumably it required the discounts to get them that way.

Hopefully they will still allow extension at one site and reduction at the next without penalty, in a poor weather situation. A few years ago when we still had our caravan, the snow came further south than forecast and there was several inches at Chapel Lane. There was no way I wanted to try towing up the necessary hills to get to Cirencester. A visit to the site office extended our stay there and reduced our booking at Cirencester.

I agree but revenue from lost deposits will go some way towards recouping costs. If CAMC adopts their rivals position it might be that discounts can then be offered to reduce peak demand eg discounts on less popular sites or pitch types.

We are all weather tourers Steve as well. The one thing we have never done (living in the North) is book a Club Site in advance, in the Winter. Maybe a few days ahead, once we know a bit about weather predictions, but not weeks, months ahead. Luckily we are in a position to do this. If weather looks dodgy, we will opt for a last minute cottage instead.
I won’t comment on the Club’s statistics and calculations, as it’s hard to see how they have been arrived at. It’s like their 1 million Members claim, is that 1 million lead Members, or 1 million folks of all ages out on the road🤷♀️ Unless you are party to how the calculations are arrived at, it’s all………speculation😁

Yes, I had a look online brue. 30,000 pitches per night available I think they quote, assume this is the average when the closed season, maintenance, flooding, etc….. is accounted for, but still not absolutely sure. 😁

I hope this arrangement could continue as well, with any difference in Site fees paid for of course. It upholds the actual touring ethos as well as being a good service to the Membership.

Afternoon
I believe that will continue TTDA, no reason not to.

When the size of the site network is taken into consideration and even if from when the seasonal sites are considered the figures banded about to make a case for introducing the new booking system it is not that many as the club also admit that most are rebooked

How's ferry Meadows then JV?

We've probably not heard of it as the scheme appears to still be in the development stage. I suspect the club won’t want it talked about yet but there’s always someone who revels in making such things public knowledge🙄
