Shattered Hob lid
We went to our motorhome (2007 Bessacarr E530) yesterday to take it out for a run. The glass cooker lid was shattered into thousands of pieces. After clearing up we searched the internet for a replacement. The part is apparently discontinued. Anyone got any advice or suggestions please? Can we use the cooker without a glass lid? Can we have a piece of toughened glass made to fit? The cooker is a Stoves DF500DIT.

You can get a piece of heat resistant toughened glass cut - a specialist like Cornwall Glass will do that in my part of the world. But have you got the hinges and can you re fit them?

You might also find >this thread< of interest. When I broke mine I got a replacement from Leisureshopdirect. I have used them for other types of spares as well and always found them very good on deliveries.

Just a thought, does the lid when down act as a cut-off for the gas supply to the gas rings/cooker? If so you wouldn't be able to use them without the lid being up.

Thanks. The lid acts as a cut off when down, quite surprised to see that some don't. Not sure how our glass broke but suspect it may have been as a result of the sun shining on it from the low winter angle through the back window. We will consider the toughened heat resistant glass or aluminium plate. We won't be going away in the MH until the New Year so have a bit of time to think.

An update on our cooker glass problem.... We found a local engineering company that was willing to sell us a piece of 5bar aluminium plate for £15. I cut out the finger curve and fitted it myself. We chose to have it up the other way to Trefor and had no need to cover the controls. We are satisfied with the result and it works as it should. Thank you all for your help and advice.

Very practical solution, looks good as well. Substance over style is often far better👍

That lid looks good and a lot stronger, you should go into production. Just needs a polish! Never understood why hob lids are glass anyway?
