New Site Booking System

Well, the silence has been deafening. The changes are a done deal, will come about this coming April, those opposed to change will continue to huff and puff, much like they did when the Club changed its name. The End.😁

I preferred the thread as it was TDA👍🏻, I was having a dose of Billy Butlins nostalgia, now it’s bitty & jarring🤷🏻♂️🙄. I was watching a YouTube channel re the Filey BB site with its own train line there were that many guests arriving & departing. Judging by the views of the Vid a lot of others like reminiscing too😊

I don’t see a bit of drift does any harm either and as you say a done deal well chewed over. Although just like the name change there is a lot more chewing to come, once they announce it properly and the vast majority of the membership find out. From my point of view, whilst I would prefer the old system to carry on, I’ve had the one contentious question answered over what will happen re pitch surfaces on existing bookings. So it will just be like making a C&CC booking, except for the price.🤔

It was suggested that my comment on the difficulty of putting a clamping tour together was based on assumption rather than experience. True but if booking sites/CLs over the past couple of years is anything to go by then it's not going to be easy.
An EV plus a tent has been suggested and a possible way to continue touring. In the short to medium term that will present charging issues. Many on here use their LVs all year. Hands up, who wants to be under canvas in the UK in January/February.
As for clamping accommodation, what happened to the "I like my own bed" brigade?

Just had a thought with reference to the booking system. We were told by a very good source that it was not a new system but a "pre-loved" one. I wonder if it is the Camping Club system? That would fit very neatly with my theory that the two organisations are on a course to merge.

TT I advise you and any new readers to read the thread up to the point it changes to a discussion on data transfer most of the points have been covered at that point if you have a comment or question jump in from one of the comments there, it's drifted off subject so much now you wouldn't know it was the same thread.

Don’t worry about availability, some of the higher end run into £thousands for a large family/2 families. I’ve done the research. They are a bargain out of season & good value, in season?, not so much. I think the camping/tenting with trailers was not aimed at the less adventurous/less interested. I went back to camping for the solitude & stress free break, this year we will be glamping for a family of 8 in season & the house is up for sale😂😂.

I don't think the C&CC can teach the CMC anything about IT from my observations!!!!! I got the impression the system came from a major holiday booking organisation, not sure I would view either Club as "major"? I would have thought there are quite a lot of advantages in buying in a system that is known to work rather than trying to write a bespoke system that will no doubt have a lot of initial gremlins. This is going to be such a major change its got to work first time otherwise you are going to have a lot of upset customers.
Whether in the future the two Clubs merge I suspect will be down to how the hobby goes in the post ICE era and whether market share can be maintain, pods or no pods!

I doubt you could tour via them as easily as with a caravan or MH. But then as I pointed out earlier, is staying on one Site pitch for a fortnight really touring?
They are popular though from what we have seen. We have friends who use the Club’s glamping pods (the posh ones, not the wooden tent type) and during the Summer months, they are booked solid. They have used them in Winter as well, at very heavily discounted prices. They are warm and cosy, have ensuite facilities, everything you could need in terms of cooking, eating, relaxing and sleeping. It’s enabled our friends to continue to use the Club, which they love, and their daughter and SIL take their van and are not far away. The EF booking system is very good as well, you do pay everything up front I believe, so it’s total commitment. We stayed on a lovely farm CL last week that put three similar glamping pods in last year. No one in them last week, but full over Christmas and New Year, and family are going to put in another, and build a little laundry that CL users will benefit from as well. So they are very much a thriving concept, both via the Club and elsewhere.

I know of a stunning house for holidays right on Scottish Borders, 4 bedrooms, brilliant dog walking, beaches, location.😉 Hot tub as well. Remote enough to be quiet, connected enough to get out and about👍

I thought the club said it was an 'extension of use' of the 'successful' roll out of the 'new' overseas booking system?

The problem with drift especially when it is excessive is it buries the the subject matter in a heap of dross and makes it difficult for a new reader to find relevent useful comments. It is fine for those who frequent the forum 24/7 and are following the thread but think about the poor casual viewer trying to read the meat of an OP. Yesterday I was beginning to wonder (and I am being polite) why the discussion wasn't posted in the General Chat area!

Thanks for adding to the “dross” PD, just as things were back on track😂
Some folks have the capacity to converse, others are all intensely focussed on one track and remain largely silent. The world needs both….. I think🤔😉

Perhaps someone who has used the overseas booking experience can tell us how good it is? It looks as they the UK Sites booking is going to be very similar.

Yes I appreciate you tour your way across to your principle destination. I had the fortnight stay in one spot in mind really. I doubt the Club would want folks hopping on after one night via the pods though, that’s an awful lot of cleaning for one night.
It looks as though you will be able to hop down to say Cornwall on the one booking experience though, if folks like to do it via Club Sites. Example for us would be Home to Tewkesbury, Tewkesbury to Exeter, Exeter to Godrevy, all via one visit to the bookings page. At the moment, something like that would be three separate bookings.

We did very similar when we had a caravan and certainly considered it touring. Personally I would find it strange to do the same with our MH, it sort of defeats the object of having it. However, folk do and to me they are still touring, just on a more limited scale.

It’s within the OP's power, PD, if he so chooses.

I read with dismay about the cc going to change the way we have to book a site. There is nothing wrong with the system as it stands all this new system does is create more paper work and I can see trying to get a deposit back as a problem knowing how company's love to hang on to cash.
Why fix something when its not broke.

Isn’t that exactly what’s happening so far?
I find it a bit strange that the posters castigating others for going off topic aren’t actually posting on topic themselves.
Hey-ho, I’ve added to the 'dross'😄

Apparently it was 'broke'. Rowena had explained the reasoning behind the change.
Quite a lot of us think it is a backward step but it’s done and it’s too late now to turn the clock back.
