New Site Booking System

Rabbits do not poo on gravel then? I wonder if this trait has been studied by David Attenborough.

I think only a reasonable knowledge of a Club Site and booking an actual pitch would give you that Nav. Unlikely to happen at the moment, given how busy Club Sites are in the Summer months.
We had the choice of two pitches when we arrived at Marazion last September. I wouldn’t have wanted to spend a week on either given that both were a pronounced slope with exposed tree roots and shaded for majority of the day. We dropped very lucky as I found another empty pitch, with no MH marker on it, and claimed that. (The German visitor had departed a day early and hadn’t let reception know). As it turned out, we had one of the best pitches on the Site for us, so had a happy week.Given that there are some not very nice pitches on some Club Sites, (shady, muddy, very sloping etc…..) it might be interesting what the Club might do if someone turns up for a fornight’s stay, and ends up paying a lot of money for less than good conditions. I suppose moving might be an option, but that’s a day wasted for some, as it can take some folks hours to pack away and then re pitch from what we have observed. Bit easier with an MH. There are certain pitches, on certain Sites we would rather go elsewhere to be honest. But I would want my money back.

There are a number of sites Marazion included that have pitches that I would deem totally unsuitable for a holiday, if that was the only pitch left what are our actual rights I wonder, my plan is I would refuse the pitch and ask for an immediate refund I always pay by credit card so if refused I would take photos of the pitch and put it in the hands of the card company I'd rather spend a night in a layby and look for somewhere else, but is there a minimum standard of pitch.
Luckily I've never been in that position.

With a proper Ordnance Survey map (not the kiddies drawing now supplied by the Club) and good aerial photography I can be fairly sure before I see a site for real as to where about I want to be - or not! Problem is the "dot-dash" mixture of pitch types in parts of some sites. I can see it being very upsetting on a typical 10 to 12 day stay seeing a lovely pitch unoccupied but banned from my usage because it has been booked for a weekend.

No pitch, apart from the odd one set aside for someone who has requested easy access to the facilities, should be banned to you, if it’s within your selected pitch type. If that is HS awning and that unoccupied pitch is HS awning you are free to select it. Clearly if it’s another pitch type you would have to enquire re the possibility of switching. I can’t see anything very upsetting in that scenario.

And Steves (correct) appraisal of the above situation is where the booking process change will seem 'confusing' to some...
currently, you don't choose a pitch type (other than SP or awning/non) so that, when you arrive you have a wide choice of all the std HS and grass pitches.
now, that choice (awning/non, grass/HS) has to be made at booking time and this will, inevitably, lead to a narrower choice on arrival....
swings and roundabouts...some will be delighted, some won't, some will be 'confused', some won't...

That is just the situations that arose with the trial of hardstand booking, hardstanding's ,having to be empty wating for a booked on that pitch arrival,
Those that think booking a specific pitch number is a good idea would also be thinking only of their own selves , not others that will arrive for two weeks and see an empty pitch
It may possibly work? on very large sites ,but with the high volume of site users in the Uk on most sites it would be difficult to work
Even AD could not get on his booked pitch on a site "over there" when he arrived early?
Unless people are willing to move once set up ? then the site staff on UK sites would I expect not be willing to let a booked pitch for any time that would overlap when it is required

We fully accept Marazion for what it is, a lovely location, which is our first priority, but some challenged pitches, more so with a MH. The biggest difference is we were only paying around £16 per night, not in the realms of £30-40 per night, which would be unacceptable for a less than good all round pitch for a long length of time.

That’s possibly the very reason booking a specific pitch will never happen on Club Sites. It needs a lot of spare capacity to give people their choice, and still accommodate others. A lot easier on a big 2000 pitch site, but on a busy 200 pitch site with a daily turnover of occupancy……🤔 not so.

Thanks for such a on topic and insightful post CY, why my preference for HS is funny to you I'm not sure? Actually they don't in my experience and I'm told many small animals prefer grass/soil if they can get it.
That aside especially with long grass it get easily missed and brought in while HS make it easier to spot, is that OK?

Evening
There'll be an army of volunteers transferring a years worth of bookings over to the new system peedee. It's really a quite straightforward job starting with the oldest bookings etc. I've even put my name forward in case they're short!!
Personally I'll be interested to see how many bookings will want to change to a grass pitch from hardstand. I've run 4 sites with a mixture of surfaces and it's surprising (even in poor weather) how many people prefer grass. So, to those on this thread who think they'll never get that gravel.........

Seems an odd thing to do manually rather than export from old system and import to new. As you wrote, it is quite straight forward.

2022 ... seriously? The Club's 'new' back office supplier should be assisting in the export of existing data, cleaning it and migrating it. It is normal, not difficult. A manual migration is open to so many errors .. and time ..?!! data protection?!!

I’m inclined to agree, PD. It’s not a like for like move with bookings having to be dealt with in chronological order and consideration given to serviced, awning and non-awning pitches. Perhaps it’s the simplest option to do it this way rather than risk a huge influx of complaints if a computerised transfer was to make a pigs ear of things. That is something that can so easily happen - just look at recent banking mishaps.
