    Just checked, shuttering ply 8 x4 under £20 per sheet.

    It depends how deep you have sunk into the mud but buying half a dozen bags of 20mm gravel from B&Q laid out along the route you wish to go might just give you enough grip to get moving? Once you have forward motion you will probably be OK.

    +1👍🏻, the spinning of wheels in 1st gear is the worst thing that can be done. Rocking fore & aft in 2nd gear is the best way with gravel bags opened & ready near the drive wheels works, smelly clutch is a side effect mind-I’ve done it. Failing that it’s a tow truck with boom unless you have someone who likes mud swimming & owns an inflatable car lifter.

    A lot of these suggestions require a trip to a supplier of the items suggested. If the OP is stranded that presents an immediate problem. I got stuck trying to reverse into my required location on a CL once. Although I had a couple of plastic track mats, they proved insufficient. However scavenging around for some odd bits of branch to shove under the wheels provided enough traction to self-extricate. Improvise. Remember "Ice Cold in Alex"

    I got stuck in the field at our storage place a while back. The owner had Ladder/tray rack but I had no luck. Eventually he jumped in an did the rapid forward/reverse trick and that worked. We got stuck another time and he used his tractor. After all that we decided to keep the motorhome in the driveway at home!

    Maybe the OP is talking to Burnham 4x4 Off road Club. I know I would be……😄 Day out for them, bit of a challenge, chance to get the winches out, and hopefully a donation to the Club. 👍

    Feb 2010, Bourg St Maurice, -20C by night,-10C by day. After a week in sunshine we had sunk a few inches into the permafrost. Slip mats wouldn't do it so we had a tug!

    No, just soft ground. It was near the top of a fairly sloping field so I was a bit surprised that it had not been firmer than the rest of the field.

    I can remember a delivery lorry getting into trouble on a camp site, the driver had to drive across a children's play area, delivering new wood chippings and the front wheel sunk into the soft area. They tackled it by deflating a tyre till they could get something underneath it more easily, it worked but was hard physical work digging around it etc.

    Presume the OP has managed to get out by now?! wink
