    Thanks for the reply Rowena.

So it sounds probable that camping and glamping won’t be happening at LMP.  In any case, the factory noise may have been an issue for campers.

Have a good Xmas all at Club offices.

    Thanks Rowena for the update.

Sorry but yet again the club have got it wrong. The site closed at the end of October 21 but the work is not scheduled to start until February 2022 Why has the site been closed for 3 months when it was not necessary? We use this site a lot and could have visited in those 3 months.

I know at the start of my post I said "yet again the club have got it wrong". Believe me I wanted to post well done to the club who have got things right by keeping the site open to members.

Sorry Rowena, but the Club have got this one badly wrong.

FB, The management made a business decision to close. That could have been due to staff shortages, problems due to Covid, , low level of customer demand over the winter months, or delays by the building contractors due to materials supply.

Closing a caravan site for a few months is not the biggest problem in my life - and I hope not in yours. Please don’t complain. Do something else or go somewhere else while you are well.

    Happy New Year.

Several sites closed early this year some because of staff shortages , some  as LMP because of refurbishments which are listed on the website, most closed until late next year,

If the reduction in pitches is a result of add serviced pitches in place of grass pitches then that would be in line with all sites that have hardstand pitches in place of grass

Given they were closing the site for the refurbishment, it probably wasn’t worthwhile. Apart from the Christmas / new year blip, I would question wether they are not kept open as more of a service than profit making. Mid week at Clumber in January / February there has been all of eight vans present. Given there is mid week discount and the amount of electric consumed, I would doubt there is any profit in it. Even the better populated full price weekends must be a close run thing.

Is it not possible the site was closed early in order to allow preliminary works ahead of the refurbishment? I am sure the Club would have good reasons for doing so. As mentioned it could be that some of the site staff could have been redeployed to other sites. One thing is certain is that all of us on here can only offer our guesswork in answer to this type of question, probably better that you pose the question direct to the Club?

Is this not an opportunity to find an alternative site whilst the closure is ongoing?

Having looked at the plans, it would appear that the grass pitches will still be there as grass pitches.  On the amended plans it shows 2 of these, and I quote:  "Tarmac spur to improve access to existing grass pitches"

The serviced pitches are being changed from some of the  existing hardstandings.  Also a few new pitches are being installed.

We too have stayed at this site in past years, quite a few times in early January.  Midweek there used to be less than a dozen outfits on the site, weekends somewhat busier, but nowhere near full at all.

I saw it that the grass pitches at the bottom of the site were the ones which will be amended to hard standing

I did see a few extra HS pitches marked on the plans, as you say at the bottom end.  The 2 tarmac spurs lead to the grass pitches in the centre of the site, behind the facilities block.  I presume they are being kept as grass pitchees.

FB does, however, raise some good points in his original post. Equally a partial opening with limited facilities may not be either practical or economically viable during the renovations.

Out of interest I just had a look at the details for the site; interestingly, there is a price quoted for tonight until tomorrow - 02/01/2022 - 03/01/2022,  £9.40 per adult and £11.10 pitch fee. Really?

In the site details it states it's open from 26 October 2022 until 2 January 2023.  So no longer an all year site after the refurbishment?

Yes, presumably; however, it appears to close again on the 2nd of January 2023, which I take it to mean it will no longer be an all year site, which it used to be.

When I started this post last October I was told by the Warden that the site would probably reopen in August/September 2022 but they were hoping to bring that date forward a month or so providing all went well. As I said in my original post we use this site a lot and very much want the C&MC to get it right.

Well, the site is reopening in the middle of December for a few weeks and then closing again. Rowena, can the Club please give us an accurate update of exactly what is happening with LMP.

As a side issue, when I 1st joined this forum I thought there were a lot of moaning members always criticising the Club, I now realise a lot of those people are just like me, fed up of the customer service given by the Club.

FB, I am afraid you will find this not the first or the last building contract to over run it’s completion date in the present economic conditions.

Shortage of materials, shortage of staff, price rises, staff illness, and suppliers going into administration all play a part. I bet the Club wishes they could give you a firm completion date.

In the meantime you have already been offered alternatives in the area. Go with the flow. You might even like them.

    Hello

Despite the announcements in both the July and August mags (stating that the number of pitches will be increased), the refurbishment reduces the pitches to 98 from 101.  The magazine have promised to issue a correction in the September mag.  I have an email from them to confirm that.

As I have mentioned before, the number of standard pitches will be greatly reduced due to the new serviced pitches and premium pitches.

The premium pitches include a BBQ station, on which you use a disposable BBQ.  Wildlife and countryside organisations are campaigning to ban disposable BBQs, not promote their use.

Having said that ,it’s a smashing site and we can’t wait for it to re-open, as long as we can win the race to book a standard pitch!

    Hi everyone,

Lady Margaret's Park major redevelopment project was delayed by the Local Planning Authority in respect of their new policy regarding discharge of waste from site to the main sewers. We had to split the project into two phases, phase 1 the existing site that will not increase any waste to the main sewer and phase 2 additional pitches in the lower extension field that would be subject to the new planning policy.

Phase 1 (main existing site) therefore commenced on 4th January this year and is on schedule to be completed by the end of August with the site reopening opening toward the end of September or beginning of October. The site will remain open all year and continue to operate all year.

The main site will see major upgrades to the facilities (toilet block, reception, MVWP's and service points etc.) and pitches with more all weather pitches and the introduction of the popular serviced pitches. These improvements will enable more pitches to remain operational throughout the year. It will inevitably reduce the number of pitches from 101 to 97 (loss of 4 pitches) It will retain the same number of caravan storage bays for members to continue to store their vans at Lady Margaret's Park.

Phase 2 will commence as soon as the Planning Authority have agreed the requirements to the new waste discharge process - the Club are not the only organisation - all new planning applications are on hold until this has been resolved by the Local Planning Authority.

The Club are ready to start as soon as permitted on the lower extension field which will provide a further 15 all weather pitches increasing the overall number of pitches at Lady Margaret's Park by 11 pitches.

The work in the lower field will continue when the main site is open with minimal disruption to the main site. We are yet to receive the requirements from the Lady Margaret's Park and so at this point in time unable to advise as to when the phase 2 works will commence (and finish).

Anyone any idea why the new bookings app shows this site as closed throughout 2023 yet you can book by phone (if you can ever get through on the phone)?

    Hi All,

I have now booked 11 nights early in the New Year at LMP. When I booked  I'm very disappointed that the Club didn't listen to members regarding the refurb. LMP has always had poor TV signal, so the refurb was the perfect opportunity  to correct that & put TV hook up on the bollards. Sadly when I booked the club stated that "TV signal is poor at this site". So they've done nothing. We use LMP a lot and with it being open year round in the winter evenings 95% people watch TV in their Van. Prior to the refurb I spoke to the warden and said I hope they put TV on the bollards, he agreed it was needed and suggested I write to the club which I did, but I never got a reply. I've said this earlier in the thread but when I joined I thought a lot of members were moaners but I now realise they like I are fed up with the club never listening to their members. The club seem to have a "we know best attitude" well I've got a shock for them THEY DON'T.

Rowena, I'm sorry my post is negative, but believe me I'd much much rather be posting "The club have again listened to their members & got the refurb of LMP spot on"

We are currently at the very recently refurbished Morn Hill site and a booster system has not been installed here despite the site information saying TV fair. It would seem that all the electrical bollards were replaced during the refurbishment so there was an opportunity to incorporate a booster system one imagines. I don't know how the Club decide? Having said that we seem to have an excellent TV signal via our rooftop aerial with just the occasional breakup. We were last at LMP in 2018 and we had a satellite dish then so it wasn't an issue although by the nature of the site a satellite dish might not  work everywhere?

Thanks David for the update regarding Morn Hill.

It's such a shame that the Club doesn't listen to it's members.

Rowena, yet again I'm sorry that I'm posting negatively. I truly wish I was posting the following.... "Well done to the Club on the refurb of LMP, the Club listened to members & got the refurb spot on. Once again well done"

Rowena, I won't post again on this thread, sadly it's a waste of my time because the Club just doesn't listen.

Not really.  Bollards were probably replaced using the existing underground cables.  To fit additional wiring for a TV connection would require lots of digging to instal additional cable/ducts.   Now, the refurb would have been an opportunity to do that, but this is The New Caravan Club.

A much simpler system is available.  A low power local transmitter on an locally unused channel rebroadcasting the signal from the main transmitter which would be received from an antenna located in a place with good signal.   There are place in the Highlands where this is done using two antennae back-to-back and no amplifier or licence required.
