New Site Booking System

JVB, I'll wager it's not the APNR that needs 'adjusting' but some folks' interpretation of a suitable number plate...anything goes, it seems (one for you there)😉
anyway, if the number is recognised by the site manager as having a valid booking, then we will be waved through....won't we?👍
we're just moving the check in function to outside the office as no transactions required...
at an 'automated' car park we just drive through, number plate/time/photo logged...no getting out of the vehicle required, same on exit...number checked, payment validated....goodbye, do come again....
no 'site managers' telling us the rules (on huge boards everywhere) or how to park (that's there too)...
we all use facilities like this every day of our lives and think nothing of it.
the point about metering was to illustrate that this is another function that can be managed (for the most part) without human intervention...is the Club 'automating' or not?

Must be that 'foreign' ANPR, David...😉
agreed, there will invariably be the odd issue....here come the site managers.. but for the vast majority a readily opening barrier for a valid paid-up customer must beat using (and collecting/returning) a fob.

Could well be the proliferation of "personal/treasured number plates on both those very big and busy holiday camp type sites
It does not seem to affect those run by government run agencies but the they are calibrated and can now even read plates that are obscured by muck

Problem with ANPR seems to be that the computer is not programmed to recognise letter number combination that were used in the UK in the past. The number plate on my Land Rover displays a number issued to my fater in the first half of the previous century and is not recognised by the charging system in local car-parks.
The maintainence engineer told me it could not handle anything with less than six characters.

That could be AI enabled👍🏻

A better way of doing it and probably less prone to error and disturbing the site manager at 10pm, is a one time QR code. The scanners could be installed as barrier systems are upgraded. The site knows who is arriving, the welcome pack could include the QR code, coded to let you in / out for the duration of your stay. We have used similar, although magnetic strip cards in hotels. I know they work, because when we got back on the second day it wouldn’t let us in, as they had only coded it for one night.😂

Ha, reminds me of a time at Godrevy when I'd put a cone on a patch of road I'd just filled. I heard a weird noise and went out to see a motorhome with the cone wedged under the front. Frantic waving didn't do it so I ran to my car to give chase as the cone could've flown out causing damage. I managed to flag them down a couple of miles away just before they got on the A30. They were oblivious and the cone needed serious first aid!!
I then had to refill the hole in the road

I've been on and off here all day (waiting for storage customers). It's interesting reading peoples thoughts. I'm glad everyone's talking about ANPR's but don't get excited, I'm still waiting for a drive over motorhome point. I think my cone has a few years to go yet

Maybe some of us would prefer to use a different card for the final payment?
I don't know how others operate their budget, but we have several cards with differing statement and payment dates, and varying credit limits. When I retired, we reduced the limits on most of the cards, so now like to spread things over the cards so as not to exceed our limits on any one card, and stagger payment dates to our advantage.
It is bad to have all your eggs in one basket, good to have a few different cards in case one is compromised.
Last summer, we got a call from the CCC on the day we were due to arrive at our next site......the payment had been declined, should they try again? We knew that as far as our spending was concerned, there was no reason for a decline, so said to try again. The result was the same, so we gave them a different card number and all was fine. A call to the card provider gave no answers, in fact they claimed no payment had been requested, all a bit of a mystery. Just as well we had more than one card.

To me a credit card is just a very convenient method of payment. I never have used them to spread payments. I work on the principle that on the day I spend the money, it is gone from my account. We only have two CC and one debit. Online spending is restricted to just one of the cards.

One method we never use now to pay by is our debit card, as the one and only time we ever did use it was to buy camping cheques, there was an extra charge to use a credit card. A couple of months later there was fraud on our account via the debit card. Coincidence? Maybe.
All but one of our debit cards are kept hidden away at home, the one we carry is only used, very rarely now, for cash withdrawals.

Unless I have missed it I haven’t seen anything about how the deposit or balance would be collected. Using existing information would certainly simplify the process, but I assume would require another direct debit mandate, to cover frequent variable payments. Personally I would like it, although others might prefer the credit card route.

Wise move 👍🏻

I think the club will use a third party to run the payment operation. Add 5% onto the operating cost and get the members to pay for it. A kickback from the third party straight onto the bottom line = lovely jubbly!

If those statements are correct, and I have no reason to doubt you JVB, then there must be something sadly wrong with the recruitment methods of the CC, or with the conditions that the site managers word under to make them leave much more frequently than those on C&CC sites.

"draw on the interest"
I would love to know where this can be done on short term deposits? Lead me to it....
The club will have money up front, yes, this is good business practice as they are continually investing in sites, staff and other financial demands. They probably have suppliers that expect payments on time too.

The points I made earlier were much as per your last paragraph, Brue. It’s my contention that those are the true reasons but I just wish they would say so. I’d have no issue with that as it would be good to see the club acting in a businesslike way in order to enhance its professionalism.

We keep only the minimum required for the month ahead in our main account, and as our pensions are paid on different dates over the month, it is good to have money going out on different dates throughout the month rather than everything on one credit card right at the start of the month. Works for us.

Scotland leaving the UK and CAMC deciding to take deposits - mmm, one is trivial and the other a bit more important but I'll let you decide which is which.🤣🤣🤣
Incidentally, I didn’t make the rules for the club's governance.

I happily use credit cards for major purchases/deposits due to sect 75 cover.

I also only use credit cards very selectively. One card I use for purchasing goods from abroad (specifically music manuscript copies from the USA). Some cards have much better currency conversion rates than I can get by using an ordinary bank account.....
I digress... very happy that the Club has de ided to allow folk to book surface type. I have no strong feelings about deposits.... I can count on one hand the number of CAMC bookings we have cancelled, and all for unavoidable reasons...

Morning
I think you'll find nellie that jv meant that more staff migrate FROM the c&cc club to CAMC. Certainly so in my experience.
