Wife and I had a look at the new Swift Sprite Compact which was a dealer special and we really liked, but now thinking there were to flaws, first was the way the door opened which could impact on awning choice and the second was the position of the fridge if being used on gas would be vented into an awning if used. Could anyone put me right if the fridge is a problem.

Also of concern when using an awning might be the lack of airflow to the fridge which could result in overheating. I guess the fridge vent position is the reason the door is hinged on the right.

Having said that, there are plenty of caravans and MHs with their fridges positioned similarly. I’m sure someone here will give you the benefit of their personal experience.

Fridge flu should vent through roof. Only displaced heat goes into awning, which in a cold country can be an advantage.

I’d be very surprised if it vents through the roof, Nav. Most these days seem to vent out through the plastic vents as per my pic. You’re probably as unimpressed as I was.

Awnings are not exactly airtight, venting in to the awning will not be a problem and is normal practice.

On our previous caravan, a 2006 Elddis Crusader Hurricane the fridge vents were on the awning side. Never had a problem, even when we were in France

Venting through the awning is not uncommon but not ideal.  I saw a Coachman recently where the fridge not only vented on the awning side but the door, when open, covered the vents !

Thanks for your replies, noticed now how many Baileys have the fridge on the awning side so obviously not a problem.
